Excellent news. ^_^ And also yes, do you have to pay for testing?
Paying for the testing is a little complicated. It depends on a few factors. Generally, a farmer will only have to pay for one clear herd test in the year, which is generally the only herd test in the year.
If the farmer is on the six-month testing system, having gotten clear of TB within the part two years, then they pay for one test and the Department pays for the other.
If the herd has the annual test, and fails it, then they move onto the every two month testing programme, which lasts until they have two clear tests and are declared disease free again. In this case, the farmer only pays for the second clear TB test, and the Department pays for the rest.
If it’s the case that the test is not a herd-wide test and is only on specific animals - namely calves over six weeks of age who have not previously been tested - then the farmer pays for that test.
Tl;dr: The farmer pays for one test in the year, and the Department of Agriculture pays for any more.
Thankfully, the herd’s TB test came clear again, so we’re for another six months until the Department insists we test again.
And so begins the longest three and a half days of the year. After this morning's milking, the vet will arrive and the herd will be TB-tested. It will not be until Saturday until we know for certain how it has gone, though generally we'll have a good idea ourselves by Friday. Let the stress begin.
