He watched them risk everything for Echo, a reg, not even a member of their family, on Skako Minor. Then, he watched them risk everything for Omega, a random child that they barely knew.
And then he waited day after day and realized... they weren't coming back for him. He was lost to them. So he risked it all for them, to bring them back. All he ever had was them and their companionship. He risked everything to bring their family back, to make things the way that they were.
I don't think Crosshair is lying about having his chip gone. All his motivations, his view on life make perfect sense after what he has been out through The world bred him and made his existence conditional. That's why he's so obsessed with being the best, having purpose. He can't fathom anything else. He a weapon. And he's good at being one. Why would he want a life doing anything else?
Yet he needs his brothers to complete him. He gave them a chance to come back to him. He brought them home, brought them into the room they trained in together. He just wanted them back.
But they have tasted a different life. Now they have Omega. They have seen true good and evil, not just fidelity to a cause. And if they survive I don't know if they will ever be able to bridge that gap with Crosshair. I hope so.
But this is star wars we are talking about...
