Speak your language Day!!!
So, in honor of speak your language day,
Kumusta kayong lahat d'yan? Para sa mga taong nag-aaral ng Tagalog, ‘Wag kayong mag-alala! Nandito lang ako, tutulungan ko kayo :>
‘Wag kayong mahiyang magtanong kung may mga bagay kayong 'di naiintindihan! Mabait po ako, 'di ako nangangagat haha! Hihintayin ko kayo~ Paalam!
Wow. That got hard.. Having to interact with people here who mostly speaks english everyday, it kinda makes my tagalog a little rusty. But don’t worry! I’m still good and ready to help and teach tagalog to those who want to learn :)
Also, here are some vocab you’d most likely hear here in the philippines nowadays:
Conyo - Someone who interchanges between tagalog and english in a sentence, who excessively uses “like”, who has an obsession with expensive brands and the innate penchant to show them off.
Chaka - Ugly
Pak Ganern - “Pak” an onomatopoeia of things hitting each other, “Ganern” is derived from the filipino word Ganoon/Ganun which means “like that”. Pak Ganern can literally mean “Boom! Like that!” or can be used as “Slay, Bitches!”, “Yaaaaas, Queen! Slay!”
Kilig - A feeling you get when you see your crush— Butterflies in your stomach.
Harana - Act of wooing someone by serenading him/her.
Gigil - Uncontrollable urge to squeeze/pinch someone.
Tampo - The state of not being angry with someone but not being affectionate either— Upset.
Sulit - Something that was worth it.
Ewan - I don’t know.
Teka - Wait/Hang on.
Tara - Let’s/Let’s go! // A lot of people also say “Tara Let’s!” which literally means “Let’s let’s” … yeah I don’t know either but we still say it *shrug*
Astig - Awesome, Cool, Amazing, Badass
and of course the most common swear word
Puta - literally means ‘whore’ but is used as an expletive to express anger or frustration like ‘Fuck!’.
Anak ng puta - Son of a bitch! // sounds more extreme in tagalog than in english tbh
Putang ina mo - Your mother’s a whore!
Tangina - Contraction of Putang ina mo but is used as “Damn!” or “Fuck!”
Tangina mo - Fuck you!
