Ancient Script of the Philippines
I reblogged a post a while back about a site where you can learn ancient languages and I just saw this post on facebook that gives people basic knowledge about the historical dialect of Filipinos. So, I’ll also share this with you guys.
Baybayin is the native Filipino script writing. It has three (3) vowels and (14) consonants. All consonant characters in Baybayin has /a/ sounds. We use kudlit (a dot, slash, etc) on top of the character to make it /e/ or /i/, while putting it below the character to make it /o/ or /u/. To remove /a/ on the characters, just put krus-kudlit or pamudpod to cross it out. We recommend using pamudpod, instead.
Some english alphabet has no direct equivalent in Baybayin. Hence, it has to be Filipinized. Write the word based on how you pronounce it. Start writing your name in Baybayin and then try translating some easy words. When you’re ready, you may start reading Baybayin.
