#tbtish #tldr my hair loves rdbeauty studio On Tuesday I gifted myself a trip to the hair salon for the first time in like a year. I was initially going to get my hair straightened and then I remembered I have an engagement this weekend and I kinda want to look like myself (my usual self) and Erin was amazing and completely flexible. The atmosphere in her shop was so inviting and familiar like being at a good friends or the cool auntie's house - I am rooted in anything ancestral/indigenous so seeing she sells crystals, smudge sticks and books about Orishas -  I was like "Yes! I am home." 🙌🏿🙏🏿 We had a dope conversation about unlearning/relearning how to treat our hair with respect, how powerful and symbolic of resistance our hair is and how much of what were incorrectly taught about our hair is rooted in trauma, respectability and lack of acceptance or appreciation. PLUS while there at her shop @unconventional.medium what did I see! The book I have been dying to get my hands on becuase I LOVE GARDENING, connecting with the land and support the #foodsovereignty movement.
