I’ve been researching internships/grad school/possible jobs for next year, this distinct feeing that I’m mentally already halfway out the door is creeping up on me -

I want to go & I probably want to go far away and I feel like people here are almost scared of me making that decision? It dosen’t feel like a hard decision to me, but it feels like the friends I’m surrounded with here feel alienated whenever I talk about it - so I just avoid it

uh oh. My mom asked me to volunteer as a judge at some kind of German fest for her high school kids. 

“you’ll be judging art,” she said. 

“It’ll be fun,” she said.

“yeah, being stuck in a school bus and hanging out around high schoolers all day sounds real fun,” I said, but I signed up anyway.

But I guess I shouldn’t have mentioned on my volunteer form that I speak german because they reassigned me as a SPELLING TEST JUDGE. 

Me. The kid who once had to miss an entire year of school to catch up on spelling because I completely mangled german and english into a mashup language of horror (basically Dutch). The person who still gets confused when I have to choose between ‘c’ and ‘k’ or ‘f’ and ‘v’. Who has to google constantly to make sure I wasn’t supposed to use a double-consonant there. Don’t even get me started on grammar...

*internal screaming intensifies*

I should be banned from googling pictures of my childhood hometown. It just reminds me that I’ll never not miss it.

Third-Culture Kid Things

My year 12 English area of study was on belonging.

I felt like I had so much prior understanding of the concept that I was almost cheating.

  (Third Culture Kids or TCKs are kids who grew up in a country that wasn't their passport country, which causes them to get 'stuck' between the two and create their own third culture.)
