#Paperboy Developed by #Tengen Published by #Mindscape Released in #1988 In Paperboy you play as the title character delivering a newspaper called The Daily Sun along a suburban street on his bicycle. The game is an arcade port of #Atari Paperboy released in 1985. This was a very frustrating game for me as I really never understood it. When my father explained it, it made more sense yet it was still frustrating as I could hardly throw the paper into the proper mail boxes, I did however break windows. I watched my father maneuver the paper boy around crazy pedestrians and unknown occurrences and not only nail the mail boxes but throw the paper on the front door... of the same house!! He told me that you had to keep all your current customers happy and break all the windows of non costumers for 7 days to beat the #Hi-Score Both as a kid and an adult I can honestly say I don’t give two shits about a high score. The game was way better on the arcade then the NES release. Though like most arcade ports of this nature it does have its charm and it is a good time killer in my opinion. #NinjaGaiden3 #TheAncientShipOfDoom Developed by #Tecmo Published by Tecmo Released in #1991 The final game of Ninja Gaiden trilogy takes place between the first two games in the series. This time #Ryu is framed for the murder of Irene Lew and investigates the circumstances behind her death. He eventually discovers a plan by CIA to utilize an interdimensional rift to create and control a race of energy-infused superhuman mutants. Well the third time isn’t the charm for Ryu’s final outing. The game almost feels like they just slapped the Ninja Gaiden logo on the game but was meant to be something totally different. The plot is super bizarre gameplay extremely difficult but in the cheesy and cheap way. Totally different from the challenging gameplay and intriguing plot. My father never played this game and I got it in my teenaged years and played it but pushed it aside. Years later I played it again with the rest of the series and was disappointed because there were great elements just piss-poor design. I managed to beat it and wished I could beat the second game of the franchise instead of this uninteresting finale. #NinjaGaiden2 Developed by #Tecmo Published by Tecmo Released in #1990 The events in Ninja Gaiden II take place one year after the events of the first game. It is about an evil emperor named Ashtar who, after hearing of Jaquio's defeat, devises a plan to take over the world and engulf it in darkness through an evil sword called the Dark Sword of Chaos. My father actually beat the sequel but never the original which is kind of odd. I think the sequel is on par with the original game in terms of difficulty. So why couldn’t he beat the original? Funny thing is that this is another NES game that I can’t beat but I beat the original. This game though weak plot, is an awesome sequel on par with #MegaMan2 in my opinion. Even though the difficulty is high and you may get frustrated, the gameplay and experience is outstanding. Not every sequel lives up to the original but I feel that this game is better. It’s great to play as #Ryu again, as they seemed to make him more graceful and badass than his first outing. All the evil beings join his quest except a #Vampire and #TheMonster that team up to stop him. The spell goes wrong and all the evil beings including the Vampire and The Monster shrink to pocket sized villains and heroes. Now it’s up to our 2 heroes to save the world! This was a game that me and my sister played all the time. It became our game as Contra was me and my fathers game. We beat this all the time and really enjoyed it as kids. We actually got along and used that good old sibling teamwork. This is also a chapter in my book and though it maybe just a basic beat em’ up it meant a lot to me as I thought about the games to write about. It’s one of the very few chapters that doesn’t really involve my father but it still meant a lot to me. Unfortunately me and my sister do not get along and haven’t spoken in quite some time, whether that’s good or bad only time will tell. As I looked back on this game through adult eyes it may not impress a lot of people. It was a fad that tried to jump on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle bandwagon, even the Toxic Crusaders tried to battle out the famous Ninja Turtles. Though fads don’t last this is a pretty good beat em’ up if you have two players! It’s not that hard and simple. Playing by yourself you may become bored as it’s very repetitive. #MikeTysonsPunchOut #PunchOut Developed by Nintendo Published by Nintendo Released in #1987 In Punch-Out!! You play as Little Mac as you fight your way up ranks of some colorful boxers and try to become the World Video Boxing Association Champion. Depending on the version on the game you either face #MrDream or #MikeTyson. This was an awesome game, its a chapter in my book and it’s also a game I only beat once and that was through decision over #IronMike My father played this game a lot and got extremely frustrated over some of the characters you face. It’s also pretty funny as some of the boxers you face are pretty stereotypical of their culture, and in the 80’s nobody cared if your feelings got hurt, it was all in good fun. I did witness my father knocking out Tyson for the 10 count after swearing several motherfuckers and cock suckers later. I never came close to beating Tyson until I started to write my book. I wanted to make sure that all the facts were correct so I replayed this game several times. As I got to Mike Tyson I wrote down the password because I definitely knew I would need it. I think I tried for a good week and never came close until I actually won by decision. I didn’t think that was actually possible but it was. #MetalGear Developed by #Konami Published by #Ultra Released in #1986 This is yet another chapter in my book! In Metal Gear you play as rookie #SolidSnake is on his first mission to rescue prisoners including fellow #FoxHound member #GreyFox from Outer Heaven prison under orders of #BigBoss he must also destroy the Metal Gear Right off the bat I sucked at this game as a kid. I didn’t know what stealth even meant. I never saw my father play this even though he had it in his collection. A random chance of luck happens after my cousin Tommy took me and my other cousin Danny to the movies to see Teenaged Mutant Ninja Turtles. We bet to sleep over and when we get there I see Metal Gear in his collection of games. After much pleading he finally decides to play it and it was awesome. Watching him play was simply beautiful. He went through the maze jungle and winded up in a new building I never saw before. He jumped in a truck and went inside another truck to yet another new location. He got a wind suit to combat the high winds on top of a roof, he even used a fucking cardboard box, I was in awe. This is a great game until you realize it’s a butchered version of an MSX release of a #HideoKojima game. Though I didn’t know that as a kid. To be fair the stealth aspect was a fresh idea on a heavily action oriented video game market. The gameplay, graphics, music and sound effects are pretty solid.
