Mistletoe?

Amber's antics and Victor's call to the school meant that there was now a mistletoe hanging right over the entrance to the common room.

"I'm hoping Nina and Fabian get caught under it, anymore tension between those two and I'll lock them in a room," Amber high-fived you, obviously sharing the same idea.

"Like you wouldn't mind catching Jerome under there, Y/N!"

"Mick!" "What? I'm just saying."

Your face burned red, and you quickly grabbed an apple to distract you from the thought of meeting a certain blond troublemaker under the mistletoe.

Victor, surprisingly, didn't seem to pay attention to the berries hanging down, but he always seemed just out of its reach-thank God, nobody in Anubis House wanted to see Victor smooch with anyone or anything.

You on the other hand, lost count of how many times your eyes drifted towards the plant, wondering if it was worth waiting under, to which the answer was no. Spontaneous and mistletoe go together. Nina nudged you, and you quickly snuck away from the table for an impromptu Sibuna meeting.

9:45 p.m

Victor was watching from his office as Anubis house ran around for any last minute gatherings before curfew. Grabbing your thermos of tea, you went to head upstairs for a quick sleep before heading back down to the tunnels, but found yourself gazing into blue eyes.

"Well, well." Cheeks burning, you glanced up, and sure enough, whatever magic in this House had managed to put you and Jerome Clarke right underneath the plant.

Jerome tilted your chin up with a finger and met you in the middle, your chamomile forgotten in your hand, you leaned into it, awkwardly placing your hand at the back of his neck and he deepened the kiss.

"You have five minute- get to your rooms!" Victor's booming voice practically sent you and Jerome 3 feet apart in the span of 5 seconds, lips bruised and chests heaving, yet eyes unwaivering.

"Now! Or it will be you cleaning every speck of this house!"

A laugh bubbled up from your chest and you both took off to your respective floors.

Victor shook his head before dropping the pin.

By all accounts, Jerome could not be trusted. Sure, he knew about Sibuna, Rufus, and Victor, but according to Alfie, he had largely put that past him. If he noticed Alfie was sneaking off at night, he no longer paid any heed. He wasn't interested in whatever crazy shenanigans the crazy American upstairs and the bookworm next door were cooking up.

After another nerve-racking night in the tunnels, Nina and the other Sibuna girls quickly made their way upstairs, avoiding Victor seamlessly. Fabian and Alfe were, of course; right outside the kitchen, so it was relatively easy to avoid Victor. Alas, you had taken your sweet time, deciding on making tea to calm your nerves. Trudy kept a box of Sleepy Time tea in the cupboard for you, and if Victor caught you down here in the past, he was stern, but ultimately would send you up to your room with a warning and a reminder to drink it before bed instead of in the middle of the night. Not anymore. Victor hardly had sympathy to begin with, but ever since the exhibition started, Victor was all too quick to lay down punishments and a toothbrush. He was shorter in temperament than ever. And that is exactly why you ran into Jerome and Alfie's room when you heard Victor's door opening.

Alfie was fast asleep already, but Jerome's eyes shot open as you flew through their door, shutting it quietly despite your haste. He sat up, brows raised, before sitting on the edge of his bed.

"A little late for a visit," he quipped, voice laced with sleep. His blue eyes blinked slowly at you, waiting for an answer.

"I made some tea, and Victor's on the prowl."

He looked over to Alfie before slowly patting the bed beside him. Even in his waking state, he could see how shaken you were. You sat down next to him, his hand reaching for your thermos to sit on his nightstand.

Any scheme or remark in his mind vanished when you laid your head on his shoulder, breathing in the hint of vanilla he seemed to have. Your eyes fluttered shut, grateful that whatever it was you had with Jerome allowed for small kindness that he gave no one else.

30 minutes passed, your half-asleep mind reminding you that you couldn't sleep here. Jerome had shuffled a bit but was otherwise in the same half asleep stats as you.

"Victor's back in his office," he whispered. You answered with a yawn and possibly an affirming word. You picked your thermos up, the tea lukewarm by now, no doubt.

You stared at him for a moment before gently touching your lips to his forehead, backing away slowly.

"Good night, Jerome. Thank you." Your voice was soft, barely a whisper. The door opened quietly, and you disappeared into the hallway.

Jerome Clarke likes to try and forget that he was once embroiled in a life-threatening situation. He likes to try and forget the weird and impossible things he saw.

If Nina Martin is standing in front of him with that crazy look in her eyes, he wants nothing to do with her. Absolutely not. Crazy, American girl with no sense of self-preservation.

"I need your help."

"Uh uh, no way, Martin. Leave me out of your crazy life."

If anyone wondered to themselves why Nina would seek out Jerome and not the official members of Sibuna, the answer lays in the uncomfortable truth that Nina Martin can be just as shady and sneaky as Jerome Clarke when need be. This particular journey requires a particular set of skill that they both have become adept at, but it also requires the one that Nina has no skill in: lying. If there is one man who can lie his way out of a locked box, it's Jerome.

"I'll pay you."

He pauses.

"How much?"

Nina shrugs, attitude etching across her face.

"Enough."

"Go on."

On the inside, she is doing a victory dance and laughing, but on the outside, she smirks before detailing the tasks ahead.

Jerome Clarke x Reader headcanons

He isn't as into it as Amber, but he will occasionally coordinate your outfits (matching scarves, color combos, etc)

He will tell it like it is, without thoughts for your feelings unfortunately.

Jerome: brings you flowers

You: these are so beautiful! Thank you!

Just kidding he can be super sweet sometimes

And there is no simple peck on the lips with Jerome; they are passionate and leave you breathless.

If in Sibuna, there is definitely a high fence and guard around tasks, objects, etc. Jerome isn't stupid nor fooled and he knows something is up.

He doesn't even sound angry; hurt, disappointed even. "Why didn't you tell me?" You're ever more aware of the Mark burning across your shoulder blade. "Because you'd get hurt too."

He has a hard time lying to you

Boy is fucking speechless when you get all fancy

Will not hesitate to steal your stuffed animal so you have to sneak down after lights out and see him just to get it back

Crashing on the floor next to him after a long night in the cellar/tunnels and sneaking back to your room before he wakes up
