Thatcher wasn't exactly fine with watching from the sidelines, more just mildly content. He knows he can't be on the ice, not even for practice. Injuries need time to heal fully for goaltenders after all.

The yearning doesn't go away though. Wanting to love a sport that can only love you back in fleeting moments. Giving up his body and soul so he can put on a pair of skates an a helmet. If anything, he should probably hate hockey. The way it's broken him down faster than time ever would, yet he can't quit.

He would play all 82 games if he could, if they would let him. Maybe if he dug his heels in harder, pressed through the pain. Maybe if he loved a little more, it would take pity on him and recognize the devotion.

For now he can sit in the pressbox. Watching the merry-go-round of the crease change with each night. He still can't leave.
