You can't talk about graffiti in the Bay Area without mentioning the legendary TDK Family! This multicultural crew of writers was founded in 1984, and has been using the walls of the Bay Area to tell their story and empower their community since before graffiti was accepted as art by the mainstream. TDK stands for Those Damn Kids (other aliases include The Dark Knights, Teach Da Kids,Tax Dollars Kill, etc.) and was founded in-part by Mike "Dream" Francisco. After Dream's unfortunate death on February 17, 2000, the crew pushed on: they continued to paint, they expanded their network and collaborated with other artists, like @golasoaso and @erkthajerk . They became teachers and started business, including a very popular tattoo shop (@510Tattoo) ... and even have a tattoo bus! Dream's son, @kilybo , furthers his father's legacy in another way: on the football field. @kilybo just graduated high school and will be attending the University of Hawaii in the fall to study and play ball.
