madonna is literally making music with with gaga and both camps on twitter are now discussing the other’s best songs y’all something has shifted and we are flourishing. their collab song literally being called KIKI (slang for a lesbian that’s neither butch nor femme) is taking me out i swear. i already made my peace that we’ll never get a second telephone but witnessing the great #gadonna reconciliation in the year of 2026 and my queen lucy liu being in the devil wears prada among them is on another pop cultural level i still can’t believe it
Here's my review (I edited it after watching the movie a second time): what I didn't like and what I enjoyed, with memes to add a touch of humor (WARNING: SPOILERS).
First of all, I need to say of course I am glad they made a sequel, so that we get more material to work with. I'm a MirAndy shipper and any new scenes are more than welcome.
The things I didn't like:
Miranda is way too nerfed (maybe that's a term only used for superheroes when they don't have their powers and are too defenseless against the villains). Let me put it this way: imagine Miranda Priestly was Kara Danvers' family member. Let's just say it felt like Miranda had been in touch with kryptonite during the whole movie.
I know due to the crisis, printed media is not as popular as it used to be and that's the premise of the movie. However, I feel like Miranda would've still been more fierce, maybe not as much as in the first movie, in which she was so damn powerful (and that gave us a tingle), but just, I don't know, they should've made her a bit vulnerable but to an extent.
2 things that I couldn't stand: the men and the bully making a comeback. Compulsory heterosexuality is the worst and they were pairing these Goddesses with men just because. If you're not a lesbian or lack empathy, you won't give a damn, there's the door. 'Lockhart' was kind, etc. and I have no complaints about the character per se, but again, I will never want to see the female characters with men for obvious reasons, and I knew this was gonna happen. But the other 2 dudes? My God, how do you pair Andy and Emily with those things?? What have I done in a past life to get my eyesight attacked by a big screen like that??? NO WAY, JOSÉ.
Also, since Nigel is canonically gay, why didn't they give him a husband in this movie? It seems everybody is given a man as if Oprah Winfrey was giving them for free except for an actual gay man who is into men 🙄
Also, they should've brought back Serena. I will always ship both MirAndy and SerEmily, you can't tell me it wasn't Serena Emily had those children with. She would've called her saying something like:
Serena: enjoy your stay, querida, the kids and I went to the mall and I couldn't say no to them, so I bought them something again.
Emily: you spoil them too much 😌
Serena: and I'll spoil you too when you're back 😘
And now, Andy's #1 hater: Lily. Tell me why (ain't nothin' but a heartache) the person who tried to get Andy Sachs fired in the first movie after she had been given lots of expensive gifts, including a Marc Jacobs bag, is still in Andy's life and we have to pretend that's alright. Toxic people shouldn't be forgiven. And the woman gets another expensive bag in this movie as a reference to the first one, wow, amazing. She was only here to give Andy a contact's number to get in touch with Lucy Liu's character and that's it, and to lead Andy to the apartment where the man rat was at because he had built the building or some sh...
Another thing: I felt like everything was happening too quickly at some point, like they were trying to glue scenes together but not at the right pace. And we didn't get enough scenes with the 4 leads 😣
The scene at the Hamptons showed 1 microsecond of the twins and I couldn't even see their faces. I was hoping to see Miranda, the twins and Andy interacting, if only to know what they've been up to. Did they go to college? Are they getting a job related to science, art? Tell me SOMETHING. They showed more of the men, which nobody gives a damn about, than of Miranda's daughters.
And Miranda should've told Andy something like: you thought I didn't know who you are. I knew all along, but I wasn't gonna act like I was fine with you abandoning me in Paris.
They also didn't explain the beef between Miranda and Lady Gaga for some reason (?)
The things I enjoyed:
Obviously, seeing Meryl, Anne, Emily and Stanley again ☺️
NIGEL
Nigel talking a bit about Italian cuisine, we know he did a documentary and everything and he loves cooking, and hearing him speak in Italian when he has Italian roots was a nice touch. And when Miranda lets him give the speech at the end I almost cried. She even kissed his cheek. It was Andy who opened Miranda's eyes, as the woman didn't know he would like doing that, it was about time he got the recognition he deserved. And the plot-twist about him being the one telling Irv to hire Andrea? And how he said she's the cutest and she is 'forever his girl' (oh, great, my eyes are watery again and I need to finish this review).
Nigel, I hope your pillow is always cold in the summer. You deserve nothing but good things ❤️
ANDY
This is something others criticized for some reason: I loved seeing Andy being an adorable dork (remember the way Miranda mentioned how weird she walked? 😂). She isn't silly or immature, she's still the woman who loves writing while keeping her principles (refusing to write a biography to criticize Miranda; she said: I'm not gonna do that to my wifey!). I love that she won an award at the beginning of the movie, that's something we've seen in MirAndy fics ☺️ My headcanon is that and that Miranda has been following her career and cutting out Andy's articles and placing them in an album. I loved those scenes of Andrea writing articles during several days, trying to earn Miranda's approval once again, but also because she's a professional and she deserved it. And the sleeveless cerulean sweater with a vest at the end almost made me jump in the seat 😁
MIRANDA
She was serving during the whole movie. I don't care how many years old she is: she's perfect. Some outfits were meh, but most of them? My God, thank you for your service. I loved her in that light blue blouse during the kitchen scene in which she's biting her lip all flirty while talking to Andrea, saying she knew she was destined to do something great, and when she was wearing black while checking Andy's ass out, and the white suit at the end.
HELP ME! *faints in lesbian*
The scene in which she talks to Andrea about The Last Supper painting is definitely one of my favorites. I loved her implying she was Jesus in that situation and she knew there was a Judas or two (I'm not sure if she thought only Emily was gonna betray her or if Andy had joined her and there were 2 Judas instead, since Nigel had seen them get inside the car together. Maybe she had her doubts and then knew it was only Emily). Then, we see the Miranda we all know, when she looks at Andy and says something like: tell her, Emily. Tell her you have convinced your boyfriend to buy Runway so that you get to be in charge (I'm paraphrasing here).
Meanwhile, Andy:
THE TENSION, THE PLOT-TWIST!
Another scene I liked "we're a team now?" Miranda and Andy in the car, sitting in the same places as in the first movie. You should be a team in more than 1 way and we all know it. We'll pretend that's what has happened.
EMILY
We saw a little bit of her vulnerable side when she's with Andy. When she tells Andrea at the end that she had tried reaching to her to become friends (we know how much effort it took her to admit it) it was like "awww". I hate how they turned her into a silly girl who was obsessed with the dude who had money and not a single braincell though. Also, she would've stayed directing DIOR and you can't change my mind. Finally, we saw progress: from eating cheese cubes to sharing carbs with Andy in the end, because "everybody knows shared carbs don't have calories" of something along those lines.
I give it a 7 / 10.
Once I can watch the movie at home, I'll make many edits, fanart and write fanfics (well, I will do the latter even if it's about the first movie since I can't remember everything about the second movie, being new and all).
I hope I haven't bored you with this long review 😂 What are your thoughts about the movie? Do you agree or disagree with some of my points? (If you disagree about the men, don't bother.)
