Yen’to was starting to suspect he was jinxed. He started his shift in a good mood, at least. Lady Faye greeted him at the door, said she thought it would be a pleasant night... and then everything went downhill from there. Immediately after Yen’to settled into position by the door, he felt a chill down his spine as a voice of doom called out from the second floor balcony - Notu’san. Gods damn it, why is he here?! Up to no good, no doubt. The man was a schemer and prankster and simply could not be trusted. Yen’to settled into a scowl once he could make out Notu talking about him to someone else. He did his best to ignore it, at least until a coin pelted the back of his head. Oh no he didn’t.
Yen’to did not even bother looking around to see who threw it; he knew. Seething with rage, he snatched up the coin from the floor and stalked up the stairs to confront Notu. He found him talking to Mibs, a recent hire. Or more accurately, spewing lies. Besides denying having thrown the coin, Notu also claimed he was Yen’to’s best friend. If he is my friend, then I am the emperor of Garlemald. Pain in the arse. With the argument going nowhere fast, Yen’to ultimately kept the coin and went back down the stairs towards the lobby. His job was to keep watch in the building, not waste his breath on fools. I have more Important things to do than refute every falsehood he throws at anyone who tolerates him. Not long after resuming his post, Yen’to caught Mibs and Notu disappearing into the back rooms. Hmph, not my problem anymore. Good riddance.
However, tempting fate was never a good idea and a new situation quickly arose. Lady Faye had made her way over to a table near the kitchen. Apparently, a very young lalafell in one of the work aprons attempted to take some food back from one the patrons. That’s odd... I do not remember him being a part of the staff. Also seems a bit young to actually be working. The kid started acting even more suspicious upon being confronted by Lady Faye. After apologizing and skedaddling away, Lady Faye confirmed he was not actually an employee and that Yen’to should keep his eye on him. Gods damn it, now I am a babysitter.
It was not quiet for nearly long enough before the imposter struck again. Yen’to noticed out of the corner of his eye that the kid snuck into the kitchen to steal one of the cakes. By the time Yen’to has stomped his way over, one of the kitchen workers had already stopped him. Apparently they knew each other, but the familiarity bore no fruit in getting the brat out of the kitchen. Gritting his teeth, Yen’to heeded the staff member’s suggestion to present the bill to Lady Faye, and dragged both it and the little terror over to his boss. Somehow, the little cheat had gotten one of everything possible on his tab. She will sort him out and no longer make it my problem. I hope he robbed a gil purse, because he is going to need it. At the same time that Lady Faye was quietly and subtly instilling terror by threatening to call the kid’s parents, Yen’to’s ears pricked up at the sound of loud noises coming from the basement. By the Twelve, what now?!
Hurrying towards the commotion, Yen’to came upon a brawl in progress between two of the guests who had earlier been verbally sparrring over their damn cookies. Already in a bad mood, he shouted for them to stop as he approached. They quickly listened, then even more quickly blamed the other for starting it. At this point, Yen’to didn’t care and ordered them and their friends to leave. He glared as they packed up, following them up to the lobby to make sure they left. The quietest one paid for them all, leaving a hefty bag of gil on the counter before finally exiting. Gods damn it, how much more trouble am I going to have to deal with? Mischief makers, brats, chocobo shite-heads... I don’t think it could be any worse at this point. ... Who starts fights over cookies? Idiots.
His mood was not improved by the sight of the brat still present, sulkily waiting by the door for either his parents or the Adders to come pick him up. While Yen’to was glaring, an au ra female in some sort of uniform entered, and Yen’to tiredly greeted her while Faye lectured the brat. Much to his surprise, the woman soon made it clear she was here for the child. She apologized on his behalf and paid his bill... of 200,000 gil. The first bit of good news all night. Maybe now things will wind down and I can relax.
But no, relaxing was evidently not yet allowed. Another group had gone down into the basement in the meantime, and once again Yen’to could hear raised voices. With a heavy sigh, he went down to investigate and found that they were arguing over who could sit on the stage. The limit of his patience reached, Yen’to shouted they could sit anywhere so long as they broke nothing and then stalked back up the stairs. I am not dealing with them right now. If I do, I am going to get myself fired. ... New bunch of idiots.
Upon returning to the lobby, Yen’to noticed he was being shadowed by a dark haired miqo’te female, a Sun-Seeker. He thought she looked familiar, one of the recent influx of hires, and addressed her. She revealed her name was Rissa, and that she was still finding footing in her employment at the teahouse. Perking up at the prospect of help, Yen’to pounced at the idea of having her work security with him. She seemed confident, at least, and made more than a few queries as to when the appropriate time to ‘flatten’ troublemakers would be. Pressing her on her talents, she made an impressive display of her daggers - practically moving faster than his eyes could track. Alright, so there are still a few rough edges to smooth out but at least she is enthusiastic. Maybe now I won’t be stretched so thinly. Need to make sure she does not simply punch anyone she does not like, though...
The evening was ending on a higher note, but by this point Yen’to was mentally exhausted. He had bad nights before, but never one with so many incidents in a row. He excused himself, and trudged back to his room. Normally able to stay awake until dawn, he barely managed to remove his armor before flopping down onto his bed and into a deep sleep.
