I'm a sucker for your dragon!mike and mage!chuck au, so - mike watching chuck weave spells, enraptured by the pretty colors and magic floating in the air. mike finally gets to see chuck looking relaxed and happy for once and suddenly he cant help but want to kiss his smiling face

(so, the first fic in the series actually takes place when Chuck is 15, Mike is 14, so we gonna age them up really quickly—)

By Book 3, Mike is too smitten to hide his damn crush feelings anymore. There’s no way he can stay in the same room with Chuck (or any of the other Burners tbh) and not stare fondly or let his pupils round.

I mean—

Look at that beautiful boy finally enjoying himself and his sparky magic now that he understands it.

Look, he’s even making butterflies!!

Of course Mike is gonna sit and stare and grin like an idiot— (P.S. Hey Chuck, were you ever told that, while dragons like sparkly things, far dragons also enjoy the qualities of living, breathing things? Yeah, Mike wants to keep you in his fae hoard and feed you and make sure you’re cozy and safe. Would you take him up on that offer?)

Turn left AU! : Mike's never captured by Kane's goons, and instead grows up with his mom in the wild. What happens to Julie? Do the burners ever meet?

................HM. >:O Well, I’m sure Dutch eventually leaves Deluxe, because he just....can’t survive, in a place that regimented. Julie probably starts building up a group of followers and eventually she goes for a coup! Texas stays out in the wild, roaming around--which is where he was when the Burners found him.

........oh, BUT. The Raymanthian Revolution eventually happens, the same as it did, and the Duke starts (and I don’t think this is a spoiler at this point) hunting down the dragons in the area and coercing them into his service. Eventually, he probably goes for Mike/Mike’s mom, and Mike joins the other dragons under the Duke’s service.

Theoretically this could turn into a story where exiled princess!Julie and her fighting boys Dutch and Texas all end up at the court of Raymanthia, and eventually end up finding Mike and the other dragons. Julie gets through to Chuck by meeting him in formality and empathizing with him ruler-to-ex-ruler, and from there things just get INCREASINGLY dramatic. Bonus points: this time Mike’s mom is probably still around and after the end of the fic she gets to see her boy set free and falling in love with a flight who loves him, which is a nice touch.
