Teacher hate needs to stop. 

Look I get it, you as a student know that you want headphones, you want food or want to sleep in class. “This teacher lets me do it” But there is SO MUCH going on that you don’t know. Departments have different rules being imposed on them. You CAN NOT eat in a science classroom for safety reasons! Janitors don’t clean properly, and neither do students. And I can’t afford the legit stuff to clean. So where you can finish lunch in history and not in Science there is a reason. 

Your teacher could be new, I have twice the amount of observations as a new public school teacher than a teacher that has been there for ten years. And new teachers are expected to follow those rules so much more than other teachers. 

Your teacher has more than one job. they teach and grade and plan and organize and have to filter everything you say though a mental health checklist, they have meetings about all of you 3-4 times a week, in the first week of school they need to have your names mostly down and know you well enough that they can write a report about you for 504/IEP accommodations. And remember off the top of their head, EVERY student who gets accommodations, and what they are.  

And not to mention every teacher needs to be certified in first aid and CPR, and needs to judge every possible injury and pain instantly. 

Teachers pay for everything in the classroom out of their own money, and if they get 30,000 a year that is a lot. Teachers are at school at 6am and stay till 6pm. When they are only getting paid from 7:15-2:45. Teachers email home if you are sick to check in, to make sure that your parents know about your grades, answer every single email your parents send with so little information that it takes 20min to figure out Who the parent is, and what period the student is in. We have to pay to go to the games to support you, the shows, the concert, nothing is free. 

Heaven forbid a teacher like me is there who is physically disabled as well, so I have to fight myself every single day on top of everything else. 

And all we ask is for you to do your homework, and not talk during the video that introduces the topic. 

Teachers teach because they love you the students, they love the material and want to share that with you, and it is the most rewarding thing when I hear a parent say: “My kid hated your subject before but now, she loves it, and really enjoys class” that is SO much better than the shitty pay and makes everything worth it. Just that ONE sentence. 

So all the post that are “Tell that teacher where to stuff the rule,” that I see on here, maybe its time to be a little more aware of what is going on, and either 1. ask for help/accommodations 2. Move on and get the work done.

Suspended For the Day

It's my fault. Let me just say that first. Okay. Sometime last week I had a particularly rough and tiring day, and it was the last class of the day, Geometry. (I hate math) My teacher has a really thick central american accent, so it's extremely hard to understand what she's saying. Plus, her voice is as shrill as a whistle. Also she thinks she has to yell at every little thing. Can't you tell she brings me joy?

Anyway, Ms. Patterson was at her usual worst that day, and she got up real close to my face and yelled loudly at me. Imagine a drill sergeant inhaling helium and screaming drills. Yeah, that bad. I couldn't handle much more without doing something I'd regret later, so I just walked out. She started walking after me, but without looking back, I flipped that pain in the ass off and went to my bus! I don't really regret my decision, but I probably won't do it again. That's why I'm in I.S.S.

Can we stop the teacher hate?  I get that you hate school, and sometimes you think that teacher's don't know what they're doing, but there are professionals in everyprofession who kind of suck at their jobs.  And all it's doing is making it out like every teacher sucks.  And then it makes me lose hope.  And I honestly just sit at home and cry sometimes because I feel like nobody appreciates me, or what I do.  I'm trying, really, really hard to give you the best education I know how to give.  Does that mean I'm perfect?  Does that mean I'm going to catch absolutely everything you do?  Or know you so well?  I want to, I want to do that, but sometimes I make mistakes.

So can we just stop the teacher hate, please?

My music teacher, the only teacher who has ever taken a rather dislike to me, said to me yesterday in relation to coursework in a catchphrase voice... "don't be emotional be commercial" 1. It doesn't make sense 2. It had no context at the time And 3. IT DOESN'T EVEN RHYME !
