One of my kiddos had me laughing pretty hard today.

We’re studying/reading A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and we’re in II.i where Helena is asking Demetrius to treat her like he treats his dog.

Student:  “What does he do with his dog?  I’m not sure I want to know.”

One of my students this year is named after a very famous fictional vampire.

Sent my students off to the theater.  I'm a little behind them as a student stopped me to ask a question. 

I'm coming up to the front of the theater & my students are walking around from the opposite end.  For some reason, they'd walked all the way around.   

My reaction:

Context:  Reading Harry Baker’s "59" in class.  

I make a comment about how based on her limited characterization, 60 probably would end up with 15 or 20.

Students laugh politely.

Me:  "Look at Miss B.  Throwing shade at a metaphor",

Student:  🤣😆🤣😆🤣

Yesterday’s Day in the Life of an English Teacher.

Favorite couplet from one of my students' poems: "I, then, commit something utterly unreal./ I poured the milk before the cereal."

Student 1:  "That one girl...named after the cookie: Oreo." Student 2:  "Arielle!"

This popped up on my FB memories today...

Last line of one of my students' book reviews and my response:

"Twilight is an exceptional book that can be enjoyed by anyone who is interested in reading a cliché. "

This last line literally made me laugh out loud. It's not usually a compliment to call something a cliche, though I do agree that the book is full them.

We're doing some "improve scenes" based on situations in A Midsummer Night's Dream.  One group comes up and one student is playing a donkey and has an actual leash hooked to their jacket.

Student in audience:  "I want to know why XXXX had a leash."

Me:  "That's the last thing I want to know."
