Thank you so much for the Golden Teacher Award!! But, in the spirit of honest, I’m not sure I deserve it or your lovely words. I did teach JR high and high school aged students for a few years, but it really wasn’t for me. I teach adults now who need to learn English for various purposes. I have total respect for the teachers still fighting the good fight and molding young minds since I know just how hard it is to do, and how important it can be. However, these days I’m mosrtly helping students and professionals wrestle with the English Language.

And no worries about grammar! I make so many embarrassing mistakes on here due to being in a rush. There's nothing like sending in an ask, and then reading all the mistakes you missed when it’s answered 🤦‍♀️.

I see no need to alter anything I said! Even though you may have moved on from teaching young minds, you're still providing a wonderful service to the community. Any kind of support for others that are trying to learn or improve their skills is to be commended!

(Admittedly, I may be biased since my career is in Training and Development. LOL!)

I’m not totally ready to write Jensen off as an actor or a person, yet. But, his fans are so ridiculous it makes me like him less to spite them. I can’t help it. It’s like a instinctive response, like the Destiel or Cockles effect, for me. The fans are so idiotic that I can’t stand the mention of either stupid ship. Well, Jensen’s fans are so simpering it makes me care less when he does do something good.

But back to the point, the bar of amazement for them is set so low, literally, he can converse with more than one person at a time, at a con, which he’s being doing for more than ten years, regularly, and it’s a wonder to them.

Like, please stop wetting your panties over the simplest things? I’m a teacher, so I do what Jensen did while thinking about a question. AND I listen for grammar errors at the same time. Where is MY award? 🙄

I find this all especially annoying because these same people who are fascinated and awed by Jensen's every sniffle, downplay Jared's actually impressive achievements. "He works near home, he stayed on the CW, he produced a show to give himself a job, he only made a spinoff because Jensen did…etc.". Jared could cure cancer and adopt a hundred orphans, and they’d ignore it or try to make it a negative. Then Jensen would put a bandaid on his own kid, and they’d be campaigning to get him a Nobel peace prize or whatever the medical equivalent is.

Make these dummies make sense.

You're not the only one his fans are alienating! There have been some annoyed fans of other projects (like The Boys, and Big Sky), who also find the AAs over-the-top, 'the-savior-has-arrived' praise incredibly off-putting, and frankly, insulting to all the other creators who were there before Jensen ever arrived.

I think they set the bar so low for Jensen so that he literally cannot disappoint them, but then set the bar so high for Jared that everything he does disappoints them (thereby reaffirming Jensen's supposed superiority).

And can I just say, in all seriousness, thank you for all of your hard work and willingness to be a teacher. It's an incredibly tough job, and often thankless, so, while this isn't tangible, please accept this digital award for all the work you do to guide the young minds in your care!

Teacher Walk Out

Dear America,

Sorry for the long post, but I can’t hold it in anymore. Can I just say how outraged I am that South Carolina’s governor does not support the walkout for SC teachers on May 1st? If you believe that teachers are nothing more than babysitters for your children or people who show up just to give your child standardized tests, you are WRONG! When looking at a news article talking about the walkout, there were so many people who think the teachers that walkout should either be fired, thrown in jail, or even replaced by technology. AMERICA, WAKE UP! The teacher shortage in this country is all too real, and what teachers need is support, not people fighting against them when they are constantly being hit from every angle. If you could only see a fraction of the work teachers put into educating the future of America, you would have a different heart, Governor McMaster. We need to stand up, NOT sit down and wait patiently. Change is never made from silence. Did you know Charleston County had over 90 teaching positions vacant less than a month ago? Let that sink in.... 90! Stop throwing teachers a bone every now and then, and start giving them what they deserve! Do you know what it’s like for one of your students to come in and be expected to learn even though they don’t have any food at their house, no electricity, or no access to running water? There are a million scenarios I could explain to you to try to make you understand, but the question I really want to ask is why are you trying restrict teachers from teaching the youth of America? The foundation of this country is education, and when you ignore education’s needs, then you are putting cracks in the foundation. One day the foundation won’t be able to stand anymore, and it will fall. Did you know the Trump administration wanted to cut $8 billion from education? When education needs the most support, it is getting hit the hardest. I’m writing this not for political reasons, but for teacher support. Teachers do not do their job for you, Governor McMaster. They do their job for their students because they know there is a need of children needing to be loved and needing an education in a country that doesn’t do enough to support the future of America. Rants of an Upset Teacher

I know this is a fitblr, so if you want to keep scrolling, that’s fine. But I am not yet over the experience I had in class today and I need to let it out.

When I was in undergrad, taking classes with engineers and other math majors, my gender was extremely under represented. Now, in grad school, I have yet to have a female professor. My female peers seem to be slowly dropping out of the PhD program, and I see how low representation can have an affect on you (and I am a white female, so I cannot even imagine how it must feel to be the only African American or Native American or Indian or literally anyone else). But in my class it is different. When you teach a remedial math course, it is a class primarily filled with women. Of my 36 students, 5 are male. This is a class that I would have taken in 9th grade, but here I am teaching it to college students. And I wonder. Here, where the females are being represented, what is this really saying? Something like, less than 25% of students who have to take remedial courses ever actually get their degree. And this hurts my soul. Because I do all that I can to help my students and I want them to succeed. Today, as I was walking around the room, my student who was once very eager, was so frustrated, she began to say she was no longer going to do the work. When I called her out on this, telling her that you cannot learn if you don’t invest, she began to cry. And I just. I can’t stop thinking about all of this. About how society has failed some of my students, how education has failed some of my students, how perhaps I am failing some of my students. And I’m just so exhausted. How do I help these kids, especially the ones facing stereotype threats?

I know that in reality, the answer is that I should learn. I should educate myself. I should research. But there is so much to learn, and I often find myself choosing between being a student and being a teacher. And I just want society to help me. Help me learn and help me teach.

Anyways, it’s way past my bedtime and I don’t know if anything I said is even appropriate so feel free to call me out (that’s how you learn), but I just. I don’t even want to do it anymore. It hurts my heart.

I just want everyone to know they are capable of learning whatever they put their mind to.
