Do I have any Teachers around atm? (bonus if it’s 6th Grade)
Welp. At the 3-week mark, my son is failing two classes and has a 70 in another. Most of this is due to not turning in assignments that he's actually completed. (He has ADD, and an IEP).
So this one poor teacher had the bad luck to be the first to answer my email today (she's the one he's got a 45% in), and I might have over-spewed my frustration at her. In short, should the following email never be sent and instead be consigned to the Trash bin?
Hi Teacher,
Thank you for answering. I would say, yes, go right ahead and embarrass Phoenix [by checking his agenda/hw daily]. I will try to do better at home, as well. Remembering to turn things in (and they're usually already completed) is a really difficult thing for him, especially, as you've noticed already, as reminders embarrass him. But what I see when I look at his grades is that they reflect the fact that he has ADD, rather than reflecting how well he knows or understands the material. If he doesn't know math, then gracious, I should HOPE he would fail, because he'd need to do it over again until he learns it. But being forgetful is a(n extremely annoying and frustrating) symptom of ADD, and that's why we have the IEP.
Not that I'm mad at you, please know this, because I'm not. I'm mad at Phoenix, and I'm mad at myself for letting it get this far, and we've barely started the school year. And maybe also mad at a system that doesn't focus more on teaching then on following rules and checking boxes (that probably annoys you as well).
In a perfect world, I'd love to see a grade (and I am speaking generically, here, because it's the same story in past years that it is now) that is exclusively reflective of how well Phoenix understands the subject being taught. And that never happens, even with the IEP. And I don't blame teachers, because I know how incredibly busy you are, and how many students you have to juggle, and how little time you have and little flexibility you have in your day and your coursework. Obviously, if the kids don't do homework, then they don't have additional practice, and you don't have a measure by which to judge their progress; and if they don't hand it in, then you have to do something, of course you do. But. Here we are, with an F, in a class that he seems to be doing passably well in otherwise.
Here’s the breakdown of the grades giving him the F:
ugh i’m sitting here trying to do homework but I can’t stop thinking about fucking common core. It is literally the shittiest idea ever and the want to implement it as young as pre-k? Elementary school should be about learning but also incorporating and encouraging their creativity. Especially in younger students. I remember in 3rd we had a solar system project, where you were assigned a planet and a project. You either had to write a song (make a planet version of an already popular song) talking about your planet, or make an alien that with a structure and functions that would allow it to survive on the planet. That is literally such an easy way to teach kids about the planets, you have to go super in depth about your planet but you make it so much fun for the kids, and it allows them to use their imagination. It’s not that hard to teach kids what they need to know without using a stupid system such as common core, hell kids learn less with common core then they would in what used to be a traditional classroom setting. I along with my peers grew up perfectly fine and well educated without common core, it’s how school as been for how many years now? Common Core is going to burn kids out before they even hit puberty.
ok but did bts get inspired by AU fanfictions??!!!?
after spending 8 hours at satan's chamber I can't make myself do any homework...literary
