I found this to be a very interesting read from Pernille Ripp - I have always had similar opinions about the way books are taught in schools. My whole life, I have been an avid reader, yet the period in my life where I read the least was during high school. Simply because books were butchered in the classroom. That is not how you foster a love of reading, it’s how you stamp it out. One example I bring up is To Kill A Mockingbird. I read and studied this book in high school, and I hated it. Yet, at the age of 25, I decided to give it a try again.... I ended up loving it. Adoring it, in fact.
I did it. For the first time since restrictions lifted here I finally went to town to collect library books, where I haven't been since February. Plus, I got a cute top with tutoring money so felt good to have a new normal, even if its just for now.
