First impressions: last night, Asante and I joined kid 1 at a reception for admitted girls of color at Miss Porters. Our evening started with a warm hug from Christine Pina followed by her hugging our child and introducing her to some of the girls. We never saw kid 1 again all evening and just received update texts about what a blast she was having. She was welcomed into the fold by her @jackandjillinc old girls (great job moms) and is spending the night at the school. We listened to the head of diversity officer and students talk about an organization that reminded me so much of La Unidad and MHCASA at MHC and made me feel at home. I didn’t have that in high school folks.
Then we moved on to a dinner and discussion at the home of Lisa Nkonoki and once again were greeted warmly with hugs by moms of ancient Kimberley Scott and graduating senior mom Francesca Borges Gordon. Lastly, fellow Jack and Jill mom Lisa Holloway has been on call for us and our many questions throughout this process. It truly takes a village and for us, having a group of moms like this who are willing to be candid and answer our hard questions, made this decision an easy one.
