More Teaching Triumphs
I saw a former ENGL 99 student today, and she excitedly told me that she has an "A" in her ENGL 1101 class this semester. She was so proud of herself, and I am too. I watched her overcome her anxieties with writing that had resulted from years of embarrassment and humiliation in her English classes. She had endured many teachers telling her she would never write well, and their frustrations with her manifested into a complete rejection of this student and her desire to learn. I am glad I was able to show this student she had the ability to write and enable her to gain the confidence in herself that she'd been missing. Success stories like this one make me know that what I am doing matters even when I don't always recognize how much of difference I'm making immediately.
