4. When picking a suitor, would you test their wit, their intelligence or their kindness? (Bonus: how?) not kindness bc most of the time that involves like. tricking someone into acting defensively by. giving them reason to be angry or think they’re in danger and then being like. haha it was just a trick and you shouldn’t have done that even though all available evidence suggested that you were doing a reasonable thing and that, in my opinion, sucks!

I don’t wanna test wit bc any test I could think of I would prob also fail and that wouldn’t be fair, and intelligence is arbitrary and not something I would just a partner on anyway? unless it’s like. emotional intelligence or willingness to listen to other points of view or something?

actually now that I’m thinking abt it if I have to pick one maybe the answer is kindness except specifically in terms of like. if I say I need their help, do they help me? yes? great, they passed the test!

11. As part of the Fae folk - What name would you tell mortals if they tried to find out yours? some vague shit that’s not technically a lie based on like. various mispronunciations of my birthname like. “there are some who call me elaine/irene/ellen/etc” which is technically a true statement, I’ve been called all of those at least once, however none of those them are my actual true name

16. A cruel king asks to marry you. Which three impossible dresses do you ask for in exchange for your hand? a dress that makes everyone who sees me feel the way I feel abt the sea (would be interesting to see what he comes up with); something absolutely doable but w super specific requirements that isn’t really an obstacle just. me trying to get a cool dress out of the deal; a dress that makes me look like my ideal self or whatever (this is a trick question and would not be a dress at all but like. if the king who wants to marry me can accept that I’m trans then maybe I do kinda wanna marry him after all)

But you made it into such an excellent lesson on why it’s important to consult with people familiar with the context or craft to identify “mystery artifacts”!! Most people wouldn’t have a Clue but your specialized knowledge in fiber crafts means you’re able to identify it! A reminder that archaeologists need to talk to folks in other specialties and fields to truly understand what they’re looking at

I mean THIS IS TRUE.  I remember that story about bone scrapers used in tanning and like, they are STILL USED.  They look basically identical.  Bone is still the preferred material to make them from even though we’ve got other kinds of manufacturing and materials now.

And archaeologists could not figure it out until someone who actually tans leather was like “oh yeah i have one of those”

I love that shit.  the part where they learn that specialized craftspeople STILL use the things they find, or things similar to them.
