As some of you may have noticed recently, the “local” movement is paramount in Alberta. The “buy local” and “support local” movements have coincidently mimicked the plunge of the economy over the past year or so. This is a phenomenal action and the hope is that this type of support sticks through the inevitable future resurge of the economy. Without getting into heavy Economics, the “local” sustainability of an economy is clearly important on many stages. The main draw is that if your local economy can sustain and support itself internally, then the full force of the global economic roller coaster will be dampened. Canada is going through an interesting time currently with this issue.
Site Note: If you haven’t seen Calgary’s Mayor Naheed Nenshi’s speech at Ottawa City Hall a few weeks past, it is worth a watch. Besides being a great speaker, his viewpoints are progressive, dynamic, and precise. Here is the link to Rebel Media’s clip: https://youtu.be/G7Kald7sly4
So how does this correlate to Teadore Co and tea?
The simple answer is: Teadore Co is proudly Canadian, Albertan, and in full support of the “local” movement.
Everyone can easily help stimulate the local economy. Whether you choose to buy from smaller local companies, eat at a locally owned restaurant, support local artists, check out local festivals, it doesn’t matter how you do it – but you unquestionably are already helping out.
Teadore Co chose the local path from the beginning and everything about us stems from our ingredients. Currently 10% of our ingredients are grown in Alberta, 10% elsewhere in Canada, and another 15% in the process of switching to Canadian producers. If you did not know, tea or Camellia sinensis, does not grow in Canadian climates. Nor does plenty of other common tea associated ingredients. Certain flowers, roots, seeds, and herbs just cannot withstand the drastic northern climate. Therefore the hot drink we all love will always be a partially imported product to us grateful Canadians.
By doing our part of supporting local herb producers and partnering up with other local organisations, Teadore Co is pleased to be doing our part to aid the Albertan economy. We will continue to grow and focus locally and we hope to see you at some of our events soon!
Oh! PS: We are very very close to announcing a website launch date! :)
