19 a good thing- (actually two)..... Only two of my lovely dresses 👗 have built in petticoats so this came yesterday along with a black one! Thanku peBay, got two for only $22, which elsewhere I was looking at $50 or more for just one! Gonna give my 40’s & 50’s dresses great shape! #teadresses #swingdresses #vintagefashion #petticoats #curvesaresexy #fms_agoodthing #fmsphotoaday https://www.instagram.com/p/Bwa-N2IhglrlhNHtBXkl5C73YAcdEGmWAYkjDw0/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=wvn63qxufvtx
Deleting my earlier posts so I'm not flooding dashes once the world wakes up. So, at the end of the month I am going to a 1920s themed party. I personally love dressing up, and the fact there was a costume theme to this party was a large part of why I decided to go despite anxiety over showing up at a place where I only kinda know ONE person and never met anyone else. (I am bringing a friend!)
A Few Facets of the 1920s Style:
emphasis on lack of curves
women often bound their breasts
drop waists
tiered skirts
spaghetti straps
sheath shape dresses
close knit caps
Basically, nothing that looks good on voluptuous women.
This site details a variety of various trends.
#1: Flapper Dresses (skimpy, tight)
#2: Egyptian Style (hideous)
#3: Oriental Style (more hideous)
#4: Tea Dresses (adorable, but not quite suitable for evening -- still my preferred style thus far)
#5: Sequins (flashbacks to childhood0
#6: Velvet (I'd rather not sweat through whatever I decided to wear)
#7: Handkerchief Hems (not a dress style so much as a hem that appears on all sorts of dresses, hideous and adorable)
#8: Dropwaists (SO, SO unflattering on any woman who doesn't have a completely rail like boyish frame)
#9: Art Deco Design (acceptable but then I'm never wearing it again)
#10: Tiered Skirt (generally part of a tiny skimpy number)
Something like this is probably exactly what I want: Except that's $275 on Etsy and wouldn't fit me even if I tried it on 6 months after death.
Going braless is never an option for me, and half the time sleeveless tops show my bra on the side, which is why I have perfected the art of blazers, vests, and bolero jackets well into the 2000s. At best I could try something with thick straps, like this:
Except you know, less hideously orange.
Most everything I can find on Etsy is beautiful, but far too expensive.
I found this lovely funeral looking affair on Ebay.
Anyway, if anyone is into this kind of stuff and wants to play along, feel free?
Oh, and here you go, I found this too.
