Team Dinoco Cruz Ramirez
Would there be any kind of scenario where The King would have to fill in as crew chief for Cruz (temporarily I'm assuming)? The idea of The King coaching Cruz through a race popped into my head a couple days ago. (I love yer posts btw, whether they be serious or funny, I always enjoy reading 'em)

I like to imagine that Cal takes over for crew chief after Lightning gets done acclimating Cruz - but things can always change. Strip’s got the most experience of anyone about anything at the racetrack, and is a very good backup.
There’s a variety of reasons that crew chiefs are substituted - maybe Cruz fails inspection a bunch of times because the team is trying to push the boundaries of the rulebook. Cal gets suspended for a few races as the consequences in the rule book states, and they have to call in a backup.
Or, more likely, Cal gets sick and needs to take a weekend off. Strip steps right on up and takes over like he’s been there all along. It could be anything like that! Sickness, family business, prearranged vacation, etc. Dinoco will always have a crew chief on call as long as the King’s around.
Cruz’s Team, Part 2: Donna
The bright yellow figure on the rear door looked at her from the light blue background. A similar figure was on the side of the trailer, though that one looked out at the world upside down.
“It’s longer than The King’s,” Donna Hunturn observed. She watched her uncle join her at the rear of the trailer.
“True,” said Grey as he drove to her side. “Tex Dinoco wanted an office in there as well as living quarters.”
“Office?” Donna asked Grey.
“Yep, for Ramirez’s assistant,” replied Grey.
“Is that common? For more than one vehicle to share a trailer?”
“Yes. Strip and Lynda usually traveled together. Still do. Other racers like having crew members along,” Grey explained.
“Oh. Okay,” said Donna.
“Think you can handle it?” asked Grey.
Donna grinned. “Of course! I’ve been hauling for Dinoco for a while now.” She regularly transported supplies to the various tracks of the Piston Cup Series.
“Racers are different,” said her uncle.
‘Very true,’ thought Donna. This assignment would be a major promotion. Getting a racer safely to and from the tracks was an incredible responsibility. She would be a key player in the success of Team Dinoco.
“Give it a lot of thought before you say yes or no to Tex,” said Grey.
“I will, Uncle Grey. Thank you for the recommendation.”
“No problem, Donna.”
Grey then became quiet for a few minutes and had a far away look in his eyes. Donna figured he was recalling the times spent with the Weathers on the road. He often told her about the long conversations between the two to pass the hours on the road.
From what she had seen around the track and on RSN, Cruz Ramirez seemed friendly. Hopefully, that friendliness was real, not just an act for the cameras. A surly passenger would make for long, miserable trips.
A female voice caught her attention.
“Mr. McQueen said they were near the Dinoco tent.”
“Okay, Eva,” said a second female voice.
“Here they come. Time to meet Team Dinoco’s newest racer face-to-face,” said Grey.
Donna saw the living version of the images on the trailer: metallic yellow and blue with warm brown eyes. A forklift in matching livery drove by her side.
She smiled. This was going to be interesting.
Author’s Note:
The end credits for the movie showed that Cruz had her own trailer. I figured that Tex would let Lightning also have his own trailer and that Mack would remain his driver.
Idk about anyone else, but I think Cal would make a great crew chief for Cruz if Lightning resigns. I enjoyed writing him that way. He's such a precious bean!
