Kit did nothing for me personally, but why the dislike?
idk man, i just can’t get my jollies up for a guy who basically attends his best friend’s wedding in the hope to DESTROY IT so he can NAB THE BRIDE FOR HIMSELF
and you know, i would probably like him if his plan had been more ambitious, a little more shakespearean, a little more iagoian, but as it is he’s just a PEST. he’s continuously telling the bride and the groom that they’re MAKING A MISTAKE and SHOULDN’T THEY THINK THIS THROUGH and this goes as far as tormenting a woman with a missing fiance that HER HUSBAND-TO-BE HAS ESSENTIALLY JUMPED SHIP BECAUSE HE DOESN’T WANT TO MARRY HER and wow what a shitty friend he is!!!! and he is supposedly matt’s best friend!
and if he really wanted to convince kyler to marry him instead of matt, why didn’t he try…… idk, not being an asshole to her??? and when nancy confronts him with his big crush and he goes “as to what, if anything, i’m going to do about it, i haven’t quite figured that out” UM NOTHING?? she is GETTING MARRIED. and what, does he think that if he somehow convinced her to run away with him that he would retain his friendship with matt? NO! which means he is willing to dispose of matt (and their entire friendship) just so he can get back with his ex. every time i play this game i am genuinely surprised that he’s not the one responsible for hiding matt’s luggage, because that is exactly the kind of person he is.
as for the kind of person matt is? the kind who still invites his conniving best friend to his wedding—despite being aware of his inappropriate crush on his fiance—because he doesn’t want to exclude him. if i were matt i would have “””””forgotten””””” to ever even send the guy an invitation.
Team matt. I am rooting for him and dj to stay together. Matt is perfect!
WHY? WHY?
Me when Fuller House Pt. Ended on a cliffhanger!
Gilmore girls / Ugly Betty romance parallels
Dean Forester = Henry Grubstick; cute, smart boy next door who would do anything for the girl and gets jealous easily (plus: bodies of gods, have you seen Christopher Gorham shirtless???)
Jess Mariano = Gio Rossi; sarcastic, quick witted and pushes the girl to follow her dreams.
Logan Huntzberger = Matt Hartley; rich boy who wants to distance himself from controlling parents (who don't approve of the girl) and an ex gets between the relationship (bonus: both have slept with many women)
how i’m looking like when explaining in my previous take why matt was a better love interest for dj
fuller house controversial take 1: matt was a better love interest for DJ than steve.
now, now, now…before the nostalgic team stevers start coming at me, this is MY opinion unless if you agree with me and if you watched the show with your eyes open. I have so many reasons why he is a better love interest in fuller house for dj…and i’ll explain them (please excuse this autistic ass rant, currently rewatching the whole series to bring back some nostalgia.)
1. Matt Has More Character Than Steve.
i was shocked to see how flat of a character steve was in this show. i blame the writers. steve’s entire personality is revolved around food. anytime he and dj have an interaction, he’s always bringing up food somehow. I mean PREACH since I love food too but it’s excessive for his character and it’s annoying. his character is also revolved around just keeping dj for himself. it’s been obvious since season one that he sees matt as competition and is jealous.
meanwhile, matt is an entire VETERINARIAN. he was always kind to dj since the start, even when he was catching suspicion that dj and steve still had feelings for one another. after dr. harmon (matt’s father) retired, he seen how upset dj was after dr. harmon proclaimed matt as the new owner of harmon pet care and offered to do a split ownership. mind you, he barely knew her at this time. so, this was a shocker to me. then again, he knew seeing that dj wanted the ownership position so badly, so that’s why he gave out that offer. reminder, he BARELY KNEW HER.
matt also was more emotionally mature than steve. steve still clinging onto the hope of reigniting he and dj’s teenage relationship, acting rather childish whenever it came to the two and wasn’t exactly respecting her boundaries while she was slowly getting into a relationship with matt in season 1 and ruined his own wedding due to his immaturity. while matt is mature, emotionally stable, and actually respects her boundaries. an example of this is when dj told matt that she wasn’t exactly ready to date back in season 1. instead of matt questioning her immediately and trying to force his feelings on her, he immediately backs off with no pressure and initiates a friendship with her instead. he has never actually gotten angry with dj. sure, maybe a tad frustrated at times but never angry. the only time i believe he was ever angry at her was when she dumped him at the altar in season 3 (i’ll get into that later)
steve loved dj because he was still looking for the teenage sweetheart he loved, still clinging into her and capturing her as his entire personality, which is unhealthy and immature. while matt loved dj for the woman she became, not the girl he’s been waiting for since high school and what she used to be.
2. Matt and Dj’s Character Arcs Pre And Post Breakup.
when matt started to date dj in season two, me; who used to thrive off of full house with dj and steve’s relationship was unsure about it. but once i watched more episodes between the two of them…i was like ‘whoa’ and my perspective changed. I absolutely loved how matt treated her (lowkey made me want a man like matt or just matt) and her kids and everything was great between them.
until steve came into the picture and created a love triangle. steve was trying so hard to win dj’s affection and heart, while she was dating matt!! steve and matt were like two different sides of the coin for her. steve could only offer his love from flashbacks to the past, while matt offered a fresh new start and future. this is where everything started to screw up.
dj was slowly gaining feelings back for steve and that’s bad because…she was still dating matt! matt himself even caught the two hugging while dj had a bouquet of roses in her arm from steve. but being the mature man he was, he didn’t go into anything immediately and tried playing it off. matt’s suspicions were only growing higher.
until season 3. steve was dating a woman named cj (ironic, ik) and he asked her to marry him. the two were holding their wedding in japan, since cj’s japanese father was paying for everything. while on the plane, matt was talking to stephanie, and he was planning to PROPOSE to dj. I thought ‘HELL YEAH!’ when he was finally deciding to finally marry her.
but then…steve switches seats with kimmy, and dj; who was wearing a sleeping mask, was talking to steve thinking he was kimmy, telling ‘kimmy’ how she still had feelings for STEVE. then i was like ‘WTF??’ LIKE NOOOOO! I was winning, then I was losing.
okay okay, smaller talk now. they arrive in japan, at cj and steve’s celebratory party, matt proposes to dj, she accepts, steve overhears from behind bushes and gets sad…now timeskip to the day onto the wedding.
cj and steve are exchanging vows, but steve is hesitant. he’s hesitant because he no longer wants to marry cj, because he was still in love with dj. cj punches steve in the groin and leaves with her daughter. this has matt have the opportunity to resume the wedding…but with dj and matt getting married. as if hesitation was contagious, dj also starts hesitating once she knew that steve was still in love with her.
here’s the dialogue below:
M: ‘what do you mean, ‘talk?’ your not changing your mind are you?’ (playful)
D: ‘I guess I am…’ (sorrowful)
*Matt is visibly upset, on the brink of storming out but stays in his place*
D: ‘I am so sorry…I love you…but it just doesn’t feel right..’
M: ‘so you don’t want to marry me?…’ (disappointment sadness)
D: ‘I guess I don’t…’
(short minute of silence before matt replies with an upset, quiet tone)
M: ‘I’m just gonna…’
(DJ reaches out for him, visibly guilty and sad)
D: ‘matt, wait…!-‘
M: ‘no…just..no.’ (matt leaves the altar in a rush, leaving dj there.)
I sobbed. the first time I seen this, I SOBBED. because my OTP relationship ended. just like that. and I was so angry and sad. matt loved dj. but dj dumped matt out of guilt for steve. their relationship was strained after those episodes and it hurt me to see them act like strangers to each other after EVERYTHING. it was so clear the writers shipped steve and dj to the point where they had to write to damage dj and matt’s healthy relationship.
after that, matt became distant. personally and professionally (this is because the two co-owned a pet clinic, so he couldn’t avoid her) and respectively so. he was dumped at the altar, he was embarrassed and hurt, so it’s a good reason why he doesn’t want to talk to dj about what happened. matt eventually left the clinic to open his own just down the street. dj and kimmy heard about this and tried to sabotage his clinic. matt, who caught her too quick, just respectively asked her and kimmy to leave. that’s it. he never tried to sabotage their clinic, he was emotionally mature and just politely asked her to leave.
the twos relationship became strained from there. dj was struggling to at least accept matt as a friend, while matt still clung to his hurting emotion and his unraveling love for dj from the wedding. thankfully, there was one episode in season 2 or 3 where dj and matt were working together with an alligator that got let loose inside of the vet clinic. they were trapped, and using that time they had to try and escape, they talked about their relationship, and it turns out…matt still liked working with dj, and the feeling was mutual.
once they were able to put the alligator to sleep and escaped the room, the two were now on a good path to being friends. not close, but just friends.
in season 4 and 5, matt continues running the other pet clinic and gets married to gia (a woman from dj and stephanie’s past in full house that was a bad girl that tried corrupting stephanie to do some bad things like take up smoking, which is one of the few reasons why dj hates her) while dj married steve and the two end the show by being friends.
a LOT of team matt fans (including myself) hated this ending because this ending for them was just to split them apart to make way for ‘king steve’. steve didn’t cling onto the dj that she was now, but her teenage self. he was still looking for that in her and tried to drown his feelings down by marrying a woman who had an exact similar nickname to dj, then immaturely dumps her at the altar, and barely respects her boundaries because he’s still head over heels for dj while she was in a relationship with matt. he couldn’t move on and let her go, and no this isn’t cute or romantic. it’s unhealthy. dj needed someone mature in her life that could help her overcome grief, stabilize herself, and find someone who also loved and helped out with her kids. and matt was RIGHT THERE.
ok ok, I might make this a little series of controversial takes…
Decided to watch Fuller House before my paper to have a laugh and omg the first episode of the new season just made me cry !!!
