Item #161. David LaChapelle is a renowned experimental photographer known for his kitsch-pop surrealist style. Recreate a well-known painting as a photograph in the style of David LaChappelle. Somewhere in your image there must be a banana, and you may not depict The Last Supper. (2X Bonus: get Dave Chappelle to star in your David LaChapelle homage.) IMG 87
Our official submission is gonna be posted on @teamsubtext later, but I was really proud of the first draft!
Power Rangers Femslash
I can’t believe I hadn’t watched the Power Rangers (2017) movie until this week. I mean, I haven’t watched Power Rangers at all since the 90s and I was 12 years old. But you know what, I kinda liked the movie. And you know I saw the Kimberly/Trini subtext for sure, but there’s not that many scenes. So I go over to AO3 wondering if anyone else had the same idea. And of the ~1800 fics for the movie, about two-thirds are Kimberly/Trini. I love it!
I want Warrior Nun season 2 as much as the next person, but part of me is worried about what happens to my creativity if Ava/Bea becomes canon canon (for realsies). Because I live for the subtext. I'll happily watch shows and movies with the big ships, but they just don't inspire me to write in the same way. I know Ava/Bea is almost canon, but it's not yet. So in my head I dream about all the moments in between, the words unsaid, all the potential first kisses or tear-filled confessions that might happen. And I know canon doesn't stop us from writing all of those things anyway, but it will feel different to me. It's about the longing, and the yearning, and the almost touches that just might be.
This show has made me feel like a writer again. Which for me means stopping at random times to take a note of an idea, and the shower epiphany being a real thing. I have a bunch of files with random snippets in them again. I get fic titles popping into my head about random things. I like feeling this way.
I just worry that if "my" ship becomes canon, I won't feel the same way anymore. So I don't mind a long wait in between seasons. Even if this show ended on the S1 cliffhanger I would still love it for all the potential fic it would generate. So let me have this hiatus, where we can bask in the glow of the Halo-Bearers and all their shippable glory.
(You want cliffhanger ending, go check out the TV show Popular from 1999-2001, and all the wonderful fanfic that came out of that.)
Item #46. THE FINAL “KALE” ART. (Please note that per Commandment #4 of the 2017 Hunt, this word and material as a Hunt item is not permitted. We are aware of this. That being said, we do not care. You still may not use the word “kale”. Henceforth, it shall be called [REDACTED] BUT you may use it as a material for this item.) Therefore, take a SINGLE glorious piece of [REDACTED] and, using whatever adornments or other decoratives, clipping patterns, etc., create a stunning, museum worthy piece of art that shall then be showcased (and submitted as such) as an ornamental headpiece on you. Item #10. Pizza was invented in Italy in 997 AD to honor the Queen Consort, Queen Margherita. The next significant event in Italian history was the start of the Renaissance Period in the 14th century, which spawned a revival in art, architecture, science and learning. Let’s celebrate these two seminal moments in Italian history. Bake a Pizza decorated as a Renaissance painting that would make the Old Masters proud. IMG 51
