Tendou wasn’t really sure what happened.
They were doing a match in PE—which was pretty unfair to be honest—and his girlfriend was on the other team. Tendou, being Tendou, who was able to successfully block every single one of their shots, let it go straight to his head.
“Whooo, I’m feeling 120% todayyyy!!” he cried out, followed by his usual, opponent-cringing staredown.
Unfortunately, the recipient of said staredown was you. And it wasn’t pleasant, at all.
Not at all, in fact. Not even when Tendou tried to rub it in your team’s faces. You had stormed out as soon as the whistle had blown, straight to the showers and straight home.
That was two days ago. He hasn’t seen you out of class since.
And now that he was at the front door of your apartment with a bouquet of your favorite flowers (Yamagata told him to overdo it), he couldn’t chicken out now.
And when Tendou knocked on your door—
“Yes?”
“[First]? It’s me.”
There was but a prompt click of the lock.
“Wha—[First], come on.”
“I am not talking to you, Satori.”
“But [First], I don’t even know what I did wrong!”
You threw the lock back and swung the door open. You felt your head would burst in your rage.
“Well, where the fuck would I even start?” you snapped. “First you tell us how shit we are at volleyball in the match, and then you rub it in our faces!”
“But babe, that happens all the time!”
“Well, not to people who don’t even play volleyball on a regular basis!” Tears were already falling. “You know that, of all things, I hate it when my ability to…to…match up to you is being compared!” You stomped your foot on your rug. “You know how much I hate being compared to other people!”
“Because you suck so much?”
That did it. You started bawling right out, and real panic set in Tendou’s bones.
“Babe, babe, don’t cry. I-I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to say it like that—”
“But you know,” you wailed. “I already told you I hate that shit, and yet you still do it!” You glared at him with red, puffy eyes. “Wakatoshi looks like a fucking angel next to you!”
“Well, then if you think that Wakatoshi’s better than I am, then maybe you should be fucking him instead!” He tossed the bouquet at the wall, and stormed out.
He didn’t mean any of it, to be honest. He was just acting out of the heat of the moment.
And because of that, he was paying the price.
