CROMWELL UPDATE! We apologize for the delay; Crommy has been in a holding pattern but we now have some excellent updates from Purdue! The hospital finally reopened Sunday, and Olivia and her mom, Adele from @oinkingacresfarm graciously transported Crom over an hour to Lafayette. He was sedated first thing Monday morning, foot evaluated, new X-rays taken, and a jugular catheter put in so he can receive all medication intravenously without having to be poked. No more needles and stress! Dr. Hawkins called during sedation and was very pleased with his progress with the hard cast and new antibiotics! The infection in the second toe bone has stopped spreading and looks like it is beginning to heal after ten days on the new antibiotics. The hard cast has immobilized his toe and provided stability. The swelling is significantly down and he is walking great in his little cast. ❤️🩹 The hoof is firm with no soft spots, odor, or discharge, which are all good signs! He is still missing quite a bit of the bone in his toe where it was eaten away by infection. Dr. Hawkins wants to keep him on the new IV antibiotics for a couple of weeks and see if his body is able to regrow the bone on its own. This might avoid putting him through another surgery! The second crack (the one in his good toe that happened after being on the block after the first surgery) is healing and growing out. Dr. Hawkins is not concerned about it at all especially with the support of the cast. We still need to do some significant fundraising for Cromwell’s medical bills. His current expenses are totaling around $17k with more expected if he ends up needing a bone graft surgery to help the toe heal or amputation surgery and a prosthetic in the worst-case scenario, and funds to cover his trip home.
