Completed line art of the sketch I posted the other day, for @agentverbivore‘s excellent fic Wait Out the Sun. This has presented a lot of fun challenges along the way, and I’m going to get to explore a few more as I move on to rendering. The colored version will be coming soon...ish. :)
Meet Cute, Chapter 21 - Escape >> read it on AO3
Summary:
Television stars Leo Fitz and Jemma Simmons’ new project requires them to fall in love on screen each and every week. But their chemistry is just for the cameras. Really.
Written as part of @teamengineering‘s group fic project. Banner by @mrsdecaestecker. Stay tuned for updates once every couple of days!
Excerpt:
If Fitz thought that coming back to work after the weekend might see a return to the easy, relaxed banter he and Jemma had shared in the early days of the show, it didn’t take long before he was proven wrong.
He arrived at the studio Monday morning a little behind schedule, but nevertheless in good spirits. He was still disappointed that he hadn’t been able to take Jemma to the Axe party, but he’d had an okay time with Katelin, and he was bursting with things to report: observations on the other party guests, the quality of the open bar, the deafening music, the awkward product placements. All of it. He was sure Jemma would get a kick out of it, and they could spend their time between takes gently ribbing the industry social scene that they both didn’t feel a particular affinity for.
His mood ticked up even more when he saw Jemma in her usual seat at the long conference table they used for table reads, dressed in a simple tee and leggings, her hair up in a messy topknot. “Morning, Jemma,” he said brightly, dropping his script onto the table and sliding into his seat next to hers, throwing her a smile.
But she barely looked his way, leaning her head into the hand she had propped up on the table. “Morning, Fitz,” she mumbled.
His smile faltered, and he narrowed his eyes at her. She was focused firmly on her script, chewing her bottom lip as she turned a page and ran her gaze over her highlighted lines. Maybe she was just tired; perhaps she hadn’t slept well. Slightly thrown, he ventured, “Did you have a good weekend?”
Jemma silently nodded and turned another page of her script.
