It's not just a cartoon, but a series of movies (four in total), which talks about four young people who live a boring life, but after being pilots and being grouped by a mechanic named Larry they go on several adventures.

Gage
It makes it clear in the movie that he is the leader, despite making common mistakes usually wanting to be fast or thinking things should work better with his ideas, not that he is arrogant, he just wants to give his best, he is often advised by his father and Rhett to be less in a hurry, and he has a certain rivalry with Wyatt, perhaps because their personalities are similar and they both want to be cool,but usually he puts that aside and focuses on the mission.
He evolved as a character by recognizing that being fast isn't always the best way to work things out, he listens more to the group and always sees what's best for everyone without distractions.

Rhett
The first impression you get is that he is a calm person, but he is usually a little anxious when there is a problem, his personality is funny and this character is usually used for comic purposes like breaking the mood in a moment of action, or oo fact that, for some reason, robots don't like him very much.
Despite what it looks like, he's very skilled in cars just like the others and is as important as anyone else, so he's not a character just for comic relief. He actually seems to be smart at times, even if it's unintentionally, and with time he seems to be calmer than before.

Brandon
At first he seems to be more friends with Wyatt (they were a duo) than the rest of the team, but over time they had to reunite, the movie makes it clear that he's the smart one of the bunch, so much so that he usually saves the group at the last minute.
He has a calm personality and is hardly surprised or scared, and when he does, it's usually close to the group, but despite that, he's not an insensitive character, he's like the other teenagers just appearing to be more aware.

°His intelligence was already a reason for irony in the film, so much so that while he was trying to encode a password, only a simple game appeared, with him saying that the technology was very advanced.
Wyatt
He's the typical strong guy who has an inflated ego, but still has an interesting story: he's not a bully character, he just likes to be strong and nice, and doesn't try to hide his gentle side when, for example, he refers himself to his grandmother affectionately and when Gage laughs at him, he says angry, no one laughs at his grandmother.
The film makes it clear that he likes to be the center of attention, as he gets angry when the team pays more attention to the monkey than he does, and ends up wanting to work alone, even though he returns to the team later.

Curiosities
°Obviously the movie was made just to get attention and sell toy cars, but still the movie seems to have a good story, even though the quality of the animation dropped a bit in the other three sequels.
