Would rayla ever try and get out of chores? How would she go about it and how often would she deny her ‘duty’ of chores?
Rayla was always a very dutiful elfling. Most of that duty went to Runaan, of course. But she never said no to chores. Runaan made sure she understood the importance of duty early on, and so she was never one to shirk chores.
She did tend to do some of them in a bit of a rush if she was promised training afterward. And sometimes she would come up with inventive ways to get the job done faster. Those usually didn’t work as well as she hoped, though--shortcuts tend to skip the point. But I must give her credit for “elfnapping” all the dirty dishes by picking up the edges of the tablecloth and hefting it over her shoulder like a rucksack on the way to the sink to wash them.
One night, I scooped her up the same way in a blanket and carried her up to bed, and when Runaan asked why I was transporting her like that, she piped up from the blanket, “I’m dishes, and we’re going to the sink!”
His faint and baffled “Carry on, then” was the most adorable thing I’d heard all day. Rayla did insist on pretending to be dishes when I set her on her bed, so naturally I had to tickle her and set her in a pretend drying rack before tucking her into her cozy cupboard for the night.
She told me she felt like the cleanest dish in the tree house, and I said, “I’m plattered you think so, love.”
