“To your soul…Cry…Cry, boy, cry”
@greenfiend connected the dots. Tears are the solution for breaking the wall in the Upside Down. Mike’s tears, to be specific.

Heroes is playing as Mike bikes home (ohhhhh, we are so getting this flashback), crying in mom’s arms after what he saw at the quarry. Will’s body being dragged out of the water.
It is also playing in season 3, after Hopper’s heart-to-heart letter, with, again, Mike hugging Karen. After the Byers moved from Hawkins. “I feel like I lost you or something.”
“And when life hurts you, because it will, remember the hurt. The hurt is good. It means you're out of that cave.” Or dungeon (cause you’re the DM). Or prison (Max’s cave=mind). Or closet. “But, please, if you don't mind, for the sake of your poor old dad, keep the door open three inches.” Or for God’s sake, with whom you’ve made a deal?
Troy makes Mike wet himself, jumping off the quarry after, as he believes, Mike made him pee himself. The same quarry Will’s body was found. But…Mike flies. “Will's in fairy land now, right? Flying around with all the other little fairies. All happy and gay.”
“It was always just about me. I was looking for answers in somebody else, but… I had all the answers. I just needed to stop being so goddamn scared. Scared of… who I really was. Once I did that, oh, I felt so free. It’s like I could fly, you know?” Will was crying. He accepted himself and gained powers to control the evil. Swapped places with God and became the Master of Puppets in order to save the one he loves.
It means…Mike is not just some random nerd (you should check out @o11yradio’s theory, it’ll turn your world UPSIDE DOWN). In order to break down the wall he needs to stop confronting. He needs to be true to himself, to his friends. Stop hiding his feelings and emotions. Cry.
