Chapter 83: The unheard scream of pain
Amanda was sorting through some old scrolls. “Why weren’t they turned into holocrons long ago?” she mutters as she runs her fingers over the charred old flimsy. Thick and aged. This was her mission, turning them into holocrons, but then the Separatists payed some visits. Just as she gets a plate to start at piece this puzzle together, everything in and around her stops.
Her knees go weak, it feels painful to even breathe, let alone think clearly. Everything seems to scream, cry and be eerily quiet all at once. “What?” Amanda grabs with one hand the table and the other presses to her forehead. The Force… it is screaming in pain, sadness and… a warning. “What is going on?” Amanda mutters as she looks around through blurry vision. Is she hearing blaster shots? Are the Separatists back? Where are the clones? And then, one single scream, is all it takes for Amanda to snap back into focus. One painful scream, full of panic, fear and… confusion. Her legs get steady as she starts to run, reaching for her lightsabre.
As Amanda rushes to Alma's side, her world spirals into chaos and despair. The blaster shots ring out, but Amanda's focus is solely on her fallen padawan, her heart wrenching at the sight of Alma's wounded form. With a primal scream of anguish and rage, Amanda ignites her lightsabers, the brilliant blades casting a defiant glow in the darkness of the corridor. Time seems to blur as Amanda taps into the Force, her movements guided by instinct and desperation. She deflects blaster bolts with precision, each swing of her lightsabers a testament to her unwavering resolve to protect those she loves. In a haze of adrenaline and grief, Amanda scoops up Alma in her arms, her heart heavy with the weight of loss and sorrow.
She had to hook her lightsabres back to her belt. Her hands glowing where they touch Alma. She knows there is a small freighter, or cargo ship that brought materials. She just has to go there. For all the emotions crashing around her, she keeps her focus. Channelling the Force. She deflects the shots that would be a direct hit. It isn’t perfect, far from it. She feels the power of each hit more pronounced than normally. She will be bruised heavily, but she is also trying to heal her padawan. Which she is not even sure how badly injured she is, or where. She ignores the scream of the clones, the men she respects. Not sure what has gotten into them, she trusts them with her life, and yet they just tried to take Almas and hers as well.
With a final surge of strength, Amanda carries Alma to safety, commandeering a small cargo ship and fleeing the chaos and destruction that now consumes Callo. As the ship streaks through the darkness of space, Amanda clutches Alma to her chest, her mind reeling with the events that have unfolded. Alma's life hangs in the balance, and Amanda knows that their journey is far from over. But in the depths of her despair, a flicker of determination ignites within her. She will not rest until she has found a way to heal Alma's wounds, to bring her back from the brink of death and ensure that justice is served for the senseless tragedy that has befallen them. With the Force as her guide, Amanda sets course for a distant refuge, where she hopes to find solace, strength, and the means to wage a new battle against the forces of darkness that threaten to engulf the galaxy. But first she needs to tend properly to Alma.
As Amanda tends to Alma's wounds, her hands moving with a fluid grace born of years of Jedi training, tears mingle with the shimmering light of the Force that surrounds them. With each touch, each whispered word of encouragement, Amanda pours her own strength and vitality into Alma's broken form, willing her Padawan to cling to life. The air in the small cargo ship brims with the raw power of the Force as Amanda channels her healing abilities. With every heartbeat, with every breath, Amanda feels the weight of responsibility pressing down on her shoulders, a heavy burden that threatens to overwhelm her. But Amanda refuses to falter, refuses to give in to despair. She focuses all her energy, all her will, on Alma's fragile form, her mind a beacon of determination in the darkness of uncertainty. The ring on her finger glows with a radiant light, a symbol of love, a bond that transcends time and space. But she tries not to think about Tech, it would only distract her. Her focus remains on the pale, sickly, pink young girl before her.
As the moments stretch into eternity, Amanda pours every ounce of her being into the healing process, her own strength ebbing and flowing with each pulse of the Force. And as Alma's wounds begin to close, painfully slow, as the crimson stain on her chest dries into the act of betrayal, Amanda breathes a sigh of exhaustion, her heart heavy with the weight of what she has done. She is forced to take a break, she can’t go on without resting and healing her mind… if that is even possible.
But there is no time for rest, no time for reflection. With a gentle touch, Amanda cradles Alma in her arms, her eyes filled with a fierce determination to protect her Padawan at all costs. And as the ship hurtles through the void of hyperspace, Amanda whispers words of love and reassurance, her voice a soothing melody in the silence of space. While she gently moves Alma to the sleeping quarters. First getting Alma out of her robes and tunic. Surley there has to be a simple medkit to wrap bandages soaked in bacta around Alma. Maybe even some simpler fine clothes she can dress Alma in.
As Amanda knows that their journey is far from over, that the forces of darkness still lurk in the shadows, waiting for their chance to strike. But as long as she has Alma by her side, as long as they stand together as master and apprentice, there is hope. Hope for a brighter future, hope for a galaxy free from tyranny and oppression. And with that hope burning brightly in her heart, Amanda steels herself for the challenges that lie ahead, ready to face whatever may come with unwavering resolve and unyielding determination.

Chapter 75: Safety meassures
As Hunter hands Tech the comm, a sense of urgency washes over him, fuelled by Amanda's distressed tone. Echo quickly takes Tech's place, understanding the gravity of the situation. Orion, sensing the shift in atmosphere, starts to grow restless, his babbling turning into whimpers.
Tech's heart pounds as he listens to Amanda's urgent message, his mind racing with worry. He exchanges a quick glance with Echo, who nods in silent understanding before Tech rushes off to a more secluded spot to continue the conversation in private.
With Orion growing increasingly fussy in Echo's arms, Hunter and Echo exchange concerned looks. They both know that something serious must be happening for Amanda to reach out to them in such a state of distress. "Stay here with Orion," Hunter instructs Echo, his voice tense with worry. "I'll go check on Tech." Echo nods, his grip on Orion tightening slightly as he tries to soothe the fussy infant. Hunter hurries after Tech, his mind buzzing with questions and concerns. Whatever it is, they need to act fast to ensure Amanda and Tech's safety.
“The Kaminoans simply contacted Alma, to ask how the Clone Troopers stationed here are doing. And then asked her about Orion when he was here.” Amanda explains. Tech's heart sinks at Amanda's words, his mind racing with concern and fear for their safety. He listens intently as Amanda explains the situation, her voice trembling with worry. The mere thought of the Kaminoans discovering their secret fills him with dread, knowing the potential consequences it could bring. As Amanda recounts Alma's unwitting slip-up, Tech's mind races to assess the situation. The Kaminoans' suspicions could spell danger for them all, especially with Orion's unique genetic makeup at stake. He knows they need to tread carefully to avoid drawing any unwanted attention. “She just loves to share everything. Even the way Orion seems to be calm around me.”
"Are you sure they suspect something?" Tech asks, his voice calm despite the turmoil swirling inside him. "We need to be cautious, especially with Orion's safety in mind." Amanda states tense with worry. "I can't shake the feeling that something isn't right," she admits, her voice barely above a whisper. "We need to do whatever it takes to protect Orion and keep our secret safe. I am sure they don’t believe a mere Padawan, how the presence of a healer is calming. If I didn’t walk in the right time and heard it, I may have only been able to stop the worst from spilling out."
Tech nods in agreement more for himself, his mind already racing with plans and strategies to safeguard their family. He knows they can't afford to underestimate the Kaminoans' cunning and determination. "We'll figure this out together," Tech assures Amanda, his voice firm with determination. "Orion's safety is our top priority, no matter what." With a shared resolve, Tech and Amanda begin to devise a plan to navigate the growing threat posed by the Kaminoans. They know that their bond as a family will be their greatest strength in the face of adversity.
As Hunter approaches Tech, his expression grave, he can hear the commotion in the background. Orion's cries pierce through the air, accompanied by the sound of his tiny fists pounding against Echo. Wrecker and Crosshair step in to lend a hand, attempting to distract and soothe Orion as best they can. "Tech, what's going on?" Hunter asks, his voice laced with concern as he takes in the chaotic scene unfolding behind Tech.
Tech quickly fills Hunter in on the situation, relaying Amanda's alarming message about the Kaminoans' suspicions and the potential threat it poses to their family. As he speaks, he keeps a watchful eye on the ongoing efforts to calm Orion, his heart aching at the thought of his son in distress. "We need to act fast," Hunter replies, his tone urgent. "We can't let the Kaminoans get their hands on Orion. He's family, and we'll protect him at all costs."
With a shared determination, Tech and Hunter spring into action, rallying the rest of the squad to devise a plan to keep Orion safe from harm. As they work together to confront the looming threat, their bond as brothers and their unwavering commitment to protecting their family shines through, providing a beacon of hope amidst the uncertainty.
“Tech you have to wipe all communication logs, and I mean all. And Tech… give me your ring, please. I will keep it safe. And before you start, no matter if it is most of the time hidden by your gloves. This is an Order.” Hunter says firmly as he looks at his worried younger brother. As Tech listens to Hunter's instructions, a sense of urgency washes over him. He understands the gravity of the situation and knows that every precaution must be taken to protect Orion and their family. With a heavy heart, he complies with Hunter’s request, handing back Hunters comm and then hesitantly removing his ring.
"Are you sure about this, Hunter?" Tech asks, his voice tinged with uncertainty as he relinquishes the cherished item. The ring holds sentimental value, a symbol of his connection to Amanda and their shared love for Orion. Hunter's expression is resolute as he nods. "We can't afford to take any chances. We'll get through this, Tech. But we need to be vigilant."
With a sigh, Tech places the ring in Hunter's outstretched hand, feeling a pang of sadness at the thought of parting with it even temporarily. But he knows that safeguarding their family is paramount, and he trusts in Hunter's judgment. As Hunter pockets the ring, the weight of their familiar mission hangs heavy in the air. Tech's mind races with thoughts of the danger lurking on Kamino and the lengths they must go to in order to ensure Orion's safety. But amidst the uncertainty, one thing remains certain: their bond as brothers and their determination to protect their loved ones will see them through whatever challenges lie ahead.
As Tech holds Orion close, he feels a surge of protectiveness coursing through him. Despite the chaos and uncertainty surrounding them, his son's presence brings him a sense of calm amidst the storm. With Orion cradled against his chest, Tech makes his way back to the ship, his mind focused on erasing any trace of their communication that could jeopardize their safety. Entering the ship, Tech settles Orion in a comfortable spot, ensuring he's securely wrapped in the towel before turning his attention to the consoles. As he begins the process of wiping the communication log, he notices a series of encrypted messages from Amanda. His heart sinks at the realization that she had tried to reach him earlier, likely with the urgent news and warnings.
Tech's fingers fly across the console, decrypting Amanda's messages with practiced efficiency. Basically containing why she resorted to contact Hunter. With each message he reads, his concern deepens. Amanda's words convey a sense of urgency, a warning of the looming threat posed by the Kaminoans and the need for vigilance in protecting Orion. Guilt gnaws at Tech as he realizes he had been unaware of Amanda's attempts to reach him, too engrossed in enjoying a moment of respite with Orion. He vows to be more vigilant in the future, to never again let his guard down when it comes to safeguarding their family.
With the communication log wiped clean and Amanda's messages safely stored in his encrypted files within encrypted files he can’t delete them, not the messages and not the recorded holos, Tech turns his full attention back to Orion. Gently stroking his son's hair, he whispers reassurances, promising to do everything in his power to keep him safe from harm. As Orion snuggles closer, his tiny fingers curling around Tech's thumb, Tech's resolve to protect him only strengthens, a silent vow etched in his heart. He places a kiss on Orion’s cheek as he gets up to change him.

Chapter 72: Favourite
As Orion bounces on Tech's legs, his gaze fixed on Hunter with an intensity that's surprising for such a young child. Tech, noticing Orion's fixation, tries to distract him by bouncing him gently and making silly faces, but Orion remains fixated on Hunter.
"Come on, little trooper," Tech coos, attempting to draw Orion's attention away from Hunter. "Let's play a game. How about peek-a-boo?" But Orion seems determined to reach his uncle, leaning precariously over Tech's tray of food, his tiny arms outstretched towards Hunter. Tech, now fully aware of Orion's intentions, tries to gently guide him back onto his lap, but Orion resists, his eyes never leaving Hunter.
"Orion, you need to stay here with me," Tech says, his voice gentle but firm. "Uncle Hunter is busy right now." But Orion, undeterred, continues to reach for Hunter, his determination evident in the way he strains against Tech's grasp. With a sigh, Tech relents, realizing that Orion's desire to be with Hunter is too strong to ignore.
"Alright, little guy," Tech says with a chuckle, surrendering to Orion's persistence. "Let's go see Uncle Hunter." As Tech lifts Orion from his lap and carries him around the table to Hunter, the other members of Clone Force 99 watch with amusement. Hunter, “surprised” by Orion's sudden arrival, can't help but smile as Tech places the eager child into his arms. Usually they try to ignore it, as Tech does tries to get Orion set to routines. "Hey there, Orion," Hunter says, his voice soft as he looks down at his nephew. "What's got you so interested in Uncle Hunter today, huh?" Orion giggles in response, reaching up to grab at Hunter's face with his chubby little hands. Hunter laughs, tickling Orion's belly gently as the child squirms with delight.
Tech watches his heart swelling with pride and love for his son. Despite his initial attempts to enforce a routine, he knows that moments like these are precious and shouldn't be denied. As the meal continues, Orion remains content in Hunter's arms, happily babbling and reaching out to anyone who passes by. And for Tech, seeing his son's joy brings a sense of warmth and happiness that fills the entire mess hall. Even if the regs would never admit it. But they adore him as well, all have seen them make silly face toward the half-clone.
Tech walks over to the food station, selecting a variety of fruits before making his way back to the table where his brothers and his son are seated. Orion remains content in Hunter's arms, his eyes bright with curiosity as he watches his father approach. Setting the fruits down on the table, Tech grabs a knife and begins to slice them into small, bite-sized pieces. He carefully arranges them in a bowl, mixing them together before sliding it over to Hunter with a smile. "Here you go, Hunter," Tech says, his voice warm with affection. "A little fruit salad for you and Orion."
Hunter accepts the bowl with a grateful nod, his own smile mirroring Tech's. He picks up a piece of fruit and offers it to Orion, who eagerly accepts it, his tiny fingers grasping at the juicy morsel. "Thanks, Tech," Hunter says, his tone sincere. "Orion seems to be enjoying his time with Uncle Hunter today." Tech nodding in agreement. "He sure does. I think he's just happy to be surrounded by family."
As the meal continues, the members of Clone Force 99 enjoy their food and each other's company, the laughter of their youngest member filling the air. And for Tech, seeing his son thriving in the presence of his brothers brings a sense of joy and contentment that fills his heart with gratitude. While the other troopers try their hardest not to look for too long at the baby, or Crosshair may glare them to death.
Orion's laughter fills the air as he leans eagerly around in Hunter’s arms, his eyes sparkling with excitement. He reaches out towards his uncle, his chubby arms outstretched as if begging to be let go. Hunter chuckles softly, his heart melting at the sight of his nephew's adoration. He shifts Orion slightly in his arms, making room for the little one to come closer or move around.
But as Orion reaches towards Crosshair, the normally stoic clone raises an eyebrow, his expression unreadable. "I'm eating," he states flatly, not wanting to appear too eager to engage with the young infant. Before Crosshair can react, however, a sticky piece of chewed-up fruit flies through the air, landing squarely on his cheek. Orion babbles excitedly, still reaching towards his uncle despite the mess he's made.
The rest of the squad watches the scene unfold with amusement, exchanging knowing glances as they try to suppress their laughter. Tech, ever the responsible one, begins to rise from his seat, ready to intervene and take Orion from Hunter's arms. But before he can make a move, Hunter gently wipes the fruit from Crosshair's cheek with a napkin, his lips twitching with suppressed laughter. "Looks like Orion has chosen you, Crosshair," he says, a hint of amusement in his voice.
Crosshair grumbles under his breath, but there's a hint of a smile tugging at the corners of his lips as he reluctantly reaches out to take Orion from Hunter. Despite his initial reluctance, there's a warmth in his eyes as he cradles the infant in his arms, his heart unexpectedly touched by the affection of his annoying nephew. Pulling the fruit bowl close, so Orion can help himself. He already got drool on his check, not needing it on his hand either. And as the squad continues their meal, the laughter of their youngest member fills the air, bringing a sense of joy and camaraderie to the table that even Crosshair can't deny.
Wrecker's booming voice cuts through the jovial atmosphere, his expression teasing as he addresses Crosshair. "Hey Crosshair, looks like you're getting soft on us," he says with a hearty laugh, nudging his fellow clone playfully. Crosshair's glare sharpens at Wrecker's comment, his jaw tightening as he shoots a steely gaze in Wrecker's direction. "Watch it, Wrecker," he growls, his tone laced with irritation. Wrecker raises his hands in a mock surrender, his grin widening as he backs off slightly. "Hey, just making an observation," he replies, trying to diffuse the tension with a light-hearted tone. Despite the banter, there's a sense of camaraderie among the squad as they exchange playful jabs and teasing remarks. And as they continue their meal, the playful ribbing between Wrecker and Crosshair adds to the sense of unity and friendship that binds them together, even in the face of their everyday challenges.
Crosshair chuckles as Orion clings to him, a mischievous glint in his eye as he looks over at Hunter, as they enter the barracks. "Looks like I'm the favourite uncle now, always was" he remarks with a grin, clearly enjoying the attention from Orion. Hunter raises an eyebrow, a hint of amusement playing on his lips as he watches Orion's antics. "Don't get too comfortable," he replies, a playful tone in his voice. "He's just going through a phase." Crosshair shrugs nonchalantly, still holding Orion securely in his arms. "I'll enjoy it while it lasts, just so you know, he will always come back to me. You are all the phases." he quips, earning a chuckle from Wrecker who's observing the scene with amusement.
As they settle into their barracks, the banter continues, with Orion happily nestled in Crosshair's arms, seemingly content to spend time with his "favourite" uncle. And amidst the camaraderie and laughter, there's a sense of warmth and family that fills the room, reminding them all of the bonds that tie them together, both on and off the battlefield.

Chapter 79: The probabilities were clear
A mixture of disbelief and wonder washes over Tech as he realizes what just occurred. Could Orion have somehow moved the toy with his burgeoning abilities? The thought both amazes and unsettles him, highlighting the unique nature of his son's connection to the Force due to Amanda.
Closing the closet finally, Tech approaches Orion with a mixture of curiosity and affection. As he lifts his son into his arms, Orion giggles and reaches up to grasp Tech's goggles, his bright eyes sparkling with delight. Tech can't help but smile at Orion's infectious joy, marvelling at the boundless energy and innocence radiating from his son. In that moment, any lingering worries or doubts fade away, replaced by an overwhelming sense of love and gratitude for the precious gift that is Orion. He did promise Amanda to not let them take it. So now he has the challenge to keep it hidden.
How difficult can it be? His brothers have other things to worry about. Right? Right!
“This is just between you and me for now” Tech's murmured words to Orion carry a sense of intimacy and trust, a promise between father and son to keep this mysterious occurrence just between them. As he places a tender kiss on Orion's forehead, Tech's heart swells with a mix of emotions, pride in his son's potential, longing for Amanda's guidance, and a touch of amusement at the unexpected turn of events. With a gentle smile, Tech muses about the captured moment, grateful for the small consolation of having it recorded. The camera attached to his goggles has preserved this precious memory, a testament to Orion's budding connection to the Force and the bond they share as father and son.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding Orion's abilities, Tech finds solace in the warmth of their relationship. He imagined the day when Orion will utter his first words would have been first.
As the squad begins to experience these strange occurrences, Tech observes with a cautious eye, noticing the pattern of seemingly minor mishaps. Objects placed down inexplicably end up on the floor or shift a few centimetres away from their original position. While his brothers scratch their heads in confusion, Tech remains silent, a flicker of recognition sparking in his mind. With Orion cradled in his arms, Tech moves subtly to shield his son from the mysterious phenomena, or he adjusts his posture or shifts his position so that Orion's gaze doesn't fall upon the objects in question, unwilling to reveal the truth about Orion's burgeoning Force sensitivity to his brothers just yet.
Deep down, Tech knows that these incidents are linked to Orion's latent abilities, a testament to the potential lying dormant within his son. But for now, he keeps this knowledge close to his chest, determined to protect Orion and navigate the uncertainties that lie ahead.
As the squad gathers for a meal, the conversation naturally turns to the recent string of odd occurrences. Tech, preoccupied with feeding Orion his puree, listens to his brothers' discussion with a subtle furrow of his brow. Hunter, ever perceptive, directs a question to Tech, asking if he's experienced any of the strange incidents. Tech, keeping his focus on Orion, replies in a matter-of-fact tone, "It's likely just the small jolts we experience while the ship navigates through hyperspace. I will take a look at the stabiliser during our next stop."
His explanation is delivered smoothly, betraying no hint of the truth he holds close about Orion's Force sensitivity. Meanwhile, he continues to feed Orion, ensuring his son remains content and unaware of the discussion unfolding around him. Though Tech's response seems to satisfy his brothers' curiosity for now, he remains vigilant, aware that keeping Orion's abilities hidden is paramount to his son's safety and well-being. As the squad continues to grapple with these strange occurrences, Tech remains vigilant, silently guarding the secret of Orion's connection to the Force while marvelling at the boundless possibilities that await his son's journey. No matter how difficult, he will protect it for as long as he can.
Not because he does not trust his brothers, more because of the fear they would brag about it. Wrecker, yes he would be such a proud uncle he couldn’t be quiet for long.

Chapter 65: Mittens
As Tech steps out onto the platforms of Tipoca City with Orion cradled against his chest, the gentle patter of the rain hitting the facility surrounds them. The cool, misty air envelops them both, contrasting with the warmth of Orion nestled in his father's arms. The rhythmic sound of rain hitting the metal surfaces creates a calming melody. Which is as familiar to Tech as it has to be for Orion, even if it may not have the same calming effect yet.
Tech takes a leisurely stroll along the bridges, the soft pitter-patter of raindrops echoing in the background. The reflections of the neon lights on the wet surfaces add a surreal glow to the environment. Orion, bundled up in a cosy outfit, gazes curiously at the rain-slicked surroundings with his bright blue eyes. Tech's mind, usually occupied with tactical calculations and technical details, finds a rare moment of solace in the simple act of walking with his son. The familiar scent of the rain-soaked air mingles with the subtle fragrance of Orion's baby shampoo. The sound of distant thunder reverberates, creating a soothing backdrop to their stroll.
Tech, immersed in the tranquillity of the moment, reflects on the challenges they face and the need to protect Orion from the prying eyes of the Kaminoans. Orion, oblivious to the complexities of his surroundings and the depth of his father’s thoughts, responds with innocent babbles and tiny grasps at the raindrops. His tiny fingers, encased in mittens, try to catch the droplets, creating a heart-warming scene. Tech can't help but smile, appreciating the simplicity and purity of these moments with his son. As they continue their walk, the rain serves as a cleansing force, washing away the tensions and uncertainties that lingered in the in their everyday lives.
Tech, finding a sheltered alcove shielded from the rain which intensified, another storm about to rage over Kamino, gently lowers himself to his knees, creating a makeshift haven for Orion. With precise movements, Tech positions Orion, supporting him under the arms, ensuring his tiny boots meet the cool surface of the formed puddle. Orion, snugly dressed and sheltered from the elements, looks down with wide-eyed curiosity at the reflective pool beneath his feet.
Tech, always calculating and vigilant, observes Orion's reactions. The puddle, a miniature world to the little one, captures his attention. His tiny hands, encased in mittens, reach down to touch the water, creating ripples that mirror the raindrops around them. Orion's babbling adds a joyful counterpoint to the ambient sounds of the rain. Tech, momentarily setting aside the complexities of his usual calculations, finds himself engrossed in the shared experience. The cool water beneath Orion's boots and the gentle touch of raindrops become sensory delights for the little one. The reflective surface mirrors their silhouettes, creating a snapshot of this father-son escapade on Kamino.
As the rain continues its dance, Tech relishes in the simplicity of the moment. Orion's laughter mingles with the rain's gentle cadence, creating a precious memory etched against the backdrop of Kamino's sterile metallic structures. In this sheltered alcove, father and son find solace, temporarily shielded from the demands of duty and the scrutinizing eyes of the Kaminoans and other clones.
As the distant rumble of thunder gradually transforms into a resonant roar, Orion's bright eyes widen with a mixture of curiosity and unease. The sound, amplified by the open expanse of Kamino's platforms, reaches him with an intensity he hasn't experienced before. Tech, attuned to Orion's reactions, senses the subtle shift in his demeanour, quickly getting up and holding him close.
Orion, nestled in his father's arms, grips the fabric of Tech's jacket, seeking comfort from the sudden onslaught of sound. His little body tenses, and his gaze searches the skies, trying to comprehend the source of this new auditory experience. The rain now falling more steadily and rapidly, adds its own percussion to the symphony of the storm. Tech, ever the analytical mind, adjusts his stance, ensuring that Orion is shielded from the rain and the unrelenting sound of thunder. He softly speaks to Orion, his voice a soothing undercurrent against the backdrop of the storm. The rhythmic patter of raindrops on the metallic surfaces provides a counterpoint to the deep resonance of thunder.
With a practiced motion, Tech loosens the hood of Orion's protective covering, allowing him to peer out at the rain-soaked surroundings. The distant flashes of lightning illuminate the cloudy canvas above, momentarily transforming Kamino's gloomy atmosphere into a captivating display of nature's power. As the thunderstorm intensifies, Tech continues to comfort Orion, his steady presence and calming words acting as a steadfast anchor. The once-startled expressions on Orion's face gradually yield to a mixture of wonder and acceptance, as if he's beginning to understand that the storm, while formidable, is a natural occurrence. But with each thunder, Orion seems to forget what Tech tried to say.
Tech, mindful of Orion's vulnerability to the storm's sensory assault, swiftly retreats into the facility, seeking refuge from the overwhelming sounds of the storm. As the thunders are now quicker in succession. The metallic echo of rain is replaced by the comforting hum of the facility's climate control as they step through the door. Orion, still cradled in his father's arms, continues to whimper, his bright blue eyes reflecting a mix of confusion and fear.
Finding a more secluded area, Tech gently lowers himself to the ground, supporting Orion with his hands under the tiny arms, leaning him against his legs. Orion, now focused on his father's face, seems to find solace in the connection. Tech, using a soothing tone, begins to explain the phenomena of thunder and lightning to Orion. “Orion, you see, thunder and lightning are like a dance in the sky. When you see that bright flash, that's the lightning. And then, the loud sound that follows, that's the thunder. They happen together because lightning makes the air around it really hot, and that creates the sound we hear as thunder.” And he dives even more into the physics of it, before he decides to head back.
As Tech navigates the sterile corridors of Kamino, not stopping his explanation, Orion's cries finally subsided. The explanation, combined with the return to the familiar, controlled environment, helps ease Orion's distress. Tech reassures him with a soft cadence of words, emphasizing that they are now safe from the elements, shielded by the facility's walls. Continuing his gentle narrative, Tech points out a nearby window, where occasional flashes of lightning paint brief, vivid patterns in the darkened sky. He uses simple words to convey the natural beauty and scientific principles behind the storm. Orion, still cradled in his father's arms, watches the mesmerizing display with wide-eyed wonder.
The storm, once a source of apprehension, becomes an educational moment for Orion, guided by Tech's measured explanations. As the echoes of thunder gradually fade into the background, Tech uses this opportunity to impart not only scientific knowledge but also a sense of security and understanding to his son. The two of them, nestled within Kamino's protective embrace, continue their exploration of the world, one lesson at a time. No matter if Orion is to young to understand, Tech will gladly explain it again… and again.
Tech chuckles, interpreting Orion's playful tugs at his hood as a form of communication. He adjusts the hood, as they walk through the corridors, Tech continues engaging with Orion, savouring these simple yet precious interactions. "Pulling on my hood, are we? Perhaps you're suggesting I need extra protection from the storm, or maybe you're just showing off your budding fashion sense." Orion responds with more enthusiastic babbles, his tiny hands exploring the textures of Tech's jacket. Tech relishes in the joy of sharing these moments with his son. The bond between them deepens with each step, reinforced by the subtle gestures and playful antics that bridge the gap between father and child.
As they approach the squad barracks, the familiar presence of his brothers awaits. Tech, with Orion still comfortably nestled in his arms, enters the shared space. The atmosphere shifts from the controlled environment of the facility to the warm camaraderie of the squad's quarters. Tech, always attuned to Orion's needs, ensures that the transition from the stormy outdoors to the familiar space of the barracks is seamless. Orion, now surrounded by the comforting presence of his family, continues to explore the world through his bright blue eyes, eager for the next adventure, lesson, or playful moment with his father and uncles.
Crosshair, arching a sceptical brow, gazes at Orion's mittens with a hint of amusement. "Mittens? Really?" he quips, his tone carrying a touch of dry humour. "Is Kamino suddenly turning into Hoth, Tech?" Tech, undeterred by Crosshair's scepticism, responds with a calm demeanour. "Crosshair, it's merely a precaution. Kaminoan temperatures tend to be on the cooler side, especially during a storm, and I'd rather not risk Orion catching a cold."
Wrecker, always ready to inject a playful remark, chimes in with a hearty laugh. "Yeah, Crosshair, you never know when Hoth might be next on our mission list. Gotta be prepared!" Crosshair smirks, giving a slight nod in acknowledgment. The banter among the squad members adds a layer of warmth to the otherwise sterile surroundings of Kamino, which seems not to the standard for this barracks. Meanwhile, Orion, oblivious to the banter about mittens and Hoth, babbles contentedly in Tech's arms, occasionally reaching out to explore the world with his tiny gloved hands.
Tech, carefully removing Orion's mittens and then unzipping the warm jacket, lets out a small chuckle as Orion reacts with glee to the raindrops. "Enjoying the rain remnants?" he says with a soft smile, his voice affectionate. The simple joy in Orion's response brings a warmth to the hearts of the squad members. As Tech begins to undress Orion, the baby gazes up at him with bright blue eyes, seemingly fascinated by the process. Tech, ever efficient, selects a breathable onesie for Orion, ensuring the comfort of his son during sleep.
Wrecker, who has been watching the interaction, adds in a boisterous tone, "Looks like we've got a rain-loving little trooper here!" “Unless it involves thunder,” Tech explains in agreement, finishing the dressing routine with practiced ease. He cradles Orion in his arms, now in lighter sleepwear, and begins to softly hum a calming tune. The gentle atmosphere, filled with the sound of raindrops and Tech's soothing melody, creates a serene moment within the squad's quarters.
Crosshair, ever observant, notes the scene with a subtle smile. "Tech, you're turning into quite the dad," he remarks, a hint of approval in his voice, but clearly amused of hearing his brother hum. Tech glances over at Crosshair, a soft expression on his face. "I suppose I am," he replies, his attention returning to Orion.
Wrecker's laughter echoes through the barracks as he claps Tech on the back, with Tech holding Orion just a bit tighter. "Six months, and you're already a pro at this dad stuff!" Echo nods in agreement. "Time does seem to fly, Tech. It feels like just yesterday we were relaxing and you told us you need to try some flying manoeuvre out, and now look at you. A diaper changing soldier."
Tech, holding Orion in his arms, shares a small but proud smile with the squad. "Indeed. It's been quite the journey. And I would do it all over again." Crosshair, ever the sharpshooter, observes, "The kid's growing fast. Ready for a mission on Hoth with those mittens." Tech chuckles, "Maybe not Hoth just yet," as he begins the process of getting a bottle ready for Orion.

Chapter 69: Comfort item
As Tech's eyes snap open, panic surges through him when he realizes Orion isn't in his arms where he fell asleep. His heart races as he quickly scans the room, frantically searching for any sign of his son. The bunk feels strangely empty without Orion's presence beside him.
"Hunter!" Tech calls out urgently, his voice betraying his rising fear. "Have you seen Orion? Where is he?" Hunter, who had been nearby, immediately senses the urgency in Tech's voice. "He's right here," Hunter replies calmly, gesturing to where he's sitting with Orion nearby, the baby contentedly playing with Hunter's bandana while sitting in his uncle’s lap.
Relief floods through Tech as he sees Orion safe and sound, but the panic doesn't fully dissipate. He scrambles out of his bunk and rushes over to where Hunter and Orion are, gathering his son into his arms with a mixture of relief and worry. "Sorry, I didn't mean to startle you," Hunter says apologetically, noticing Tech's distressed expression. "He just woke up a little while ago. Seemed like he needed a change of scenery."
Tech nods gratefully, his heart still racing from the scare. "Thanks, Hunter," he says, his voice slightly shaky. "I appreciate you looking after him." With Orion safely back in his arms, Tech holds him close, feeling the weight of his son's presence reassuring him that everything is okay. As he settles back into his bunk, he holds Orion tightly, grateful for every precious moment they have together. Tech sinks back onto his bunk, cradling Orion against his chest as he tries to calm his racing heart. The scare has left him shaken, but seeing Orion safe and content in his arms brings a wave of relief washing over him.
"Are you okay?" Hunter asks, his voice laced with concern as he watches Tech with furrowed brows. Tech nods, still feeling the lingering effects of panic coursing through him. "Yeah, I'm fine," he replies, his voice slightly hoarse. "Just... had a moment there." Hunter gives him a sympathetic smile, understanding the weight of responsibility that comes with caring for a child, especially in their line of work. "He's a handful, that's for sure," Hunter remarks, gesturing to Orion, who's now happily babbling and reaching for Tech's goggles coughing softly.
Tech chuckles softly, feeling the tension slowly ebbing away as he focuses on Orion's adorable antics. "Yeah, but he's worth it," he says, his voice filled with love and affection for his son. As Tech settles completely back into his bunk even if just for a moment, he feels a sense of gratitude wash over him for the bond he shares with Orion and the support of his brothers. With Orion safely nestled in his arms, he knows that no matter what challenges they may face, they'll always have each other.
-----------
Tech gently tries to coax the bandana away from Orion, but the little one clings to it stubbornly, his tiny fingers wrapped tightly around the fabric. With a soft sigh, Tech decides not to push it, understanding that the bandana seems to be providing Orion with comfort. "Alright, Orion," Tech says softly, his tone gentle and reassuring. "You can hold onto it for now." He proceeds to carefully wash Orion, being extra gentle and attentive as he works, mindful of Orion's delicate state. Despite the earlier scare, Tech finds solace in the routine of caring for his son, the familiar tasks helping to ground him and soothe his frayed nerves. As he finishes cleaning Orion and dresses him in fresh clothes, Tech can't help but feel a swell of gratitude for his brothers, especially Hunter, whose presence and support have been invaluable during this challenging time. With Orion cleaned and settled, Tech holds him close, feeling a sense of warmth and contentment wash over him as he savours the quiet moment with his son and his brothers by his side. Burying his face for a moment in those soft brown locks, his heart still clenching feeling the heat radiate of his son. But this will get over.
Tech considers the options carefully as he prepares to feed Orion. He knows that solid foods can be more nutritious and help Orion develop his chewing and swallowing skills, but he also wants to ensure that Orion's stomach can handle it, especially considering his recent illness. After weighing the pros and cons, Tech decides to start with a combination of formula and a small amount of mashed fruits and vegetables instead of the purees. This way, Orion can still receive the nutrients he needs from the formula while being sick.
As he prepares the meal, Tech makes sure to mash the fruits or vegetables into a smooth consistency, ensuring that they are easy for Orion to digest. He also adds a little water to thin out the mixture, making it easier for Orion to swallow. Once everything is ready, Tech sits down with Orion and carefully offers him the spoonful of food, watching closely for any signs of discomfort or hesitation. As Orion eagerly opens his mouth and accepts the food, Tech can't help but feel a sense of pride and satisfaction, knowing that he's doing his best to provide for his son's needs.
Tech returns from getting his drink and finds Orion happily playing with his food, making a mess with the bandana Hunter gave him. Despite the mess, Tech can't help but smile at the sight of his son's antics. He knows that these moments are precious and fleeting, and he wants to cherish every one of them. Even if he just turn away for a few moments.
With a sigh, Tech gently takes the bandana away from Orion and wipes his hands and face clean. He then cleans up the spilled food, making sure to salvage what he can and discard the rest. As he cleans, Tech talks to Orion, reassuring him that it's okay and gently explaining that food is for eating, not playing. Once the mess is cleaned up and Orion is settled again, Tech sits back down with him and offers him another spoonful of food. This time, he keeps a closer eye on Orion, making sure he doesn't get too adventurous with his meal. Despite the little mishap, Tech is grateful for these moments with Orion, messy or not.
Tech watches Orion's reaction with a raised eyebrow, a mixture of confusion and curiosity crossing his features. He wonders what might have caused Orion to react this way to the washed bandana, which just moments ago he seemed so fond of. Gently, Tech retrieves the bandana from where Orion tossed it aside and holds it out to him again, trying to gauge his reaction. But Orion only pushes it away, his cries growing louder. Tech's concern deepens as he tries to soothe Orion, wondering if something about the bandana has upset him.
Unable to decipher Orion's distress, Tech decides to set the bandana aside for now, opting to focus on comforting his son instead. He holds Orion close, murmuring softly to him and rocking him gently until his cries begin to subside. As he holds Orion, Tech can't help but feel a pang of worry, hoping that whatever upset Orion can be resolved soon.
Later as father and son join the others, Orion despite being sick, leans over Tech’s arms reaching towards Hunter. Tech notices Orion's behaviour and glances at Hunter with a small smile. "Seems like someone wants to be with his favourite uncle," Hunter remarks grinning at the others, who all just roll their eyes, as Tech gently shifts Orion closer to Hunter. "He's been a bit fussy today, but he seems to calm down whenever he's near you."
Hunter chuckles softly, adjusting his hold on Orion to make him more comfortable. "Guess he just knows who to go to for comfort," he replies, running a hand soothingly over Orion's back. "He's a smart one, that's for sure." Tech nods in agreement, feeling grateful for Hunter's presence and the bond he shares with Orion. As they continue their conversation, Tech can't help but marvel at the way Orion seems to instinctively seek out comfort from his uncle, finding solace in their bond.
Orion, yet again moves around, trying to reach Hunter’s bandana. Hunter smiles fondly at Orion's antics, handing over the bandana without hesitation, not wanting Orion to tumble out of his arms. "Looks like he's determined to keep this one," he remarks, amused by Orion's attachment to the fabric.
But after just a few moments Orion leans now back towards Tech again, and Hunter hands him back. Tech sighs softly as he adjusts the bandana, so it does not twist around Orion’s head. "Seems like he's found another favourite," he says, gently stroking Orion's cheek with his free hand. "You've got quite the collection now, little trooper." Orion babbles happily, holding onto the bandana tightly as he settles in Tech's arms. Tech smiles down at him, feeling a rush of warmth at the sight of his son's content expression. As they continue their day, Tech makes a mental note to keep Hunter's bandana close, knowing it holds a special significance for Orion.
-------------
Tech's realization dawns with a mix of amusement and understanding as Orion rubs the bandana all over his face again and again while also gnawing on it. "Looks like he's got a keen sense of smell," he remarks to Hunter, nodding towards Orion. "He knows when something's not quite right, even with a stuffy nose." Hunter chuckles, selecting a fresh bandana from his locker, even if all are the same with various degree of wear and tear. "Guess I'll have to wear this one for a while longer," he says, tying it around his head securely. "Can't have little Orion upset over a change in scent."
Tech nods, watching as Orion continues to explore the fabric with curiosity. "Seems like he's got a strong attachment to it," he observes, marvelling at the simple yet profound connection Orion has formed with Hunter's bandana. As they carry on with their day, Tech makes a mental note to ensure Orion always has familiar scents around him, knowing how much comfort they bring to his son.

I actually planned to time Order 66 to Chapter 66. But then the Chapters would have been way to long, and I want the chapters to be a comfortable length.

Chapter 66: Don’t grow up
In the dimly lit barracks on Kamino, Tech adjusts his position to accommodate Orion's restless movements. The ambient glow of the lamps casts a soft light over the room as Tech watches his son with a mix of amusement and affection, marvelling at the energy and spirit packed into that small frame. "Alright, little trooper," Tech says, gently guiding Orion's hands back to the bottle. "You've got to finish your bottle if you want to be as strong as the rest of the squad, you know?"
Orion, seemingly captivated by the familiar sound of his father's voice, lets out a series of adorable coos and gurgles. Tech chuckles, finding joy in these simple moments. As he encourages Orion to finish the last bit of his formula, Tech's mind briefly wanders to the passage of time and the accelerated aging that awaits him and his brothers. "But for now," Tech whispers to Orion, "let's enjoy these moments, just you and me. No need to grow up too fast."
The steady mix of sounds from his brothers provides a soothing backdrop as Tech continues to share this quiet bonding time with his son, the subtle rhythm of their interactions weaving a tapestry of connection in the midst of their unconventional existence on Kamino. Tech observes Orion for any cues, remembering the guidance he had read about burping babies. As Orion squirms and fidgets in his father's arms, Tech can't help but smile at the subtle yet clear signs that a burp is imminent.
"Alright, Orion," Tech murmurs, shifting his hold slightly to facilitate the process. He gently pats Orion's back, providing the support needed for the release of the trapped air. Moments later, a soft burp escapes Orion, and Tech's smile widens. "There you go, little trooper," he says, relieved that Orion's discomfort has eased. As he continues to cradle his son, Tech contemplates how these everyday moments of caring for Orion bring a unique warmth to the barracks on Kamino and to the days on the Havoc Marauder, turning it into a haven amidst the challenges they face.
As Tech lies down next to Orion, he removes his goggles, setting them aside. The light now turned off as all settle down to sleep. With a calm demeanour, Tech positions his hand over Orion's stomach, his fingers moving in a rhythmic pattern. He whispers reassuring words to Orion, a comforting presence as the little one drifts into slumber. Tech reflects on the subtle joys of parenthood, the quiet moments shared with Orion that create an unbreakable bond. How not only Orion but Amanda changed him in ways he never imagined. How he does now not only rely on logic anymore, how he is a bit more emotional. Especially with Orion. As the soothing motion of his hand continues, Tech's mind briefly drifts to the challenges they've faced and the uncertainties of the future. Yet, in this serene moment, all that matters is the peaceful connection between a father and his son in the heart of the Kaminoan barracks.
In Tech's dream, the chaotic scenes of war dissipate, replaced by a serene landscape of rolling hills and a quaint farmhouse. He envisions a life where the echoes of blaster fire are replaced by the gentle rustling of leaves and the distant sounds of nature. Amanda is by his side, and together they tend to a thriving farm, a stark contrast to the life they lead as soldiers. Orion, now a little older, runs through the fields with laughter echoing in the air. Tech can almost feel the warmth of the sun on his face as he watches his son grow up in a world untouched by the shadows of conflict. In this dream, there are no secret missions, no battles to strategize, just the simple joys of a family living in peace.
As the dream unfolds, Tech and Amanda share quiet evenings on the porch, watching the sunset paint the sky in hues of orange and pink. The weight of armour and blasters is replaced by the comfort of normal clothing, and the subtle hum of technology is replaced by the natural sounds of the countryside. However, even in this idyllic dream, there's a bittersweet undercurrent. Tech is aware that it's just a fleeting vision, a mirage of what could have been. What should have been… The war-torn reality and their duty to the Republic linger in the recesses of his mind, reminding him that such a life is not their current path, even in the depths of his dreams it is looming over him.
As the dream gradually fades, Tech awakens to the familiar surroundings of the Kaminoan barracks. He gazes down at the peaceful face of Orion, sleeping soundly in the the curve of the breastfeeding pillow. The dream may be a temporary escape, but the reality of their lives as soldiers persists, intertwined with the love and challenges that come with raising a child in the midst of war.
In the quiet before any of the others wakes up, Tech carefully removes the muslin cloth from Orion's tiny grasp, ensuring it doesn't disturb his son's peaceful slumber. The cloth, now damp with drool, becomes another item on Tech's mental checklist, something to wash, safeguarding against prying eyes and potential scrutiny. As he sets the cloth aside, Tech glances around the barracks, a constant reminder of the need for caution in their unique situation. The muslin cloth, now imbued with Orion's innocence, adds to the array of objects Tech vigilantly manages to protect their privacy.
Reaching for a fresh cloth, Tech gently wipes away any remaining drool from Orion's face, appreciating these intimate moments shared with his son. The subtle sounds of the Kaminoan facility persist outside, emphasizing the delicate balance between parenthood and the secrecy necessary for their safety. Orion, nestled close to his father, shifts in his sleep, a testament to the curiosity inherent even in the dreams of infants. Tech, ever watchful, contemplates the complexities of their lives and the necessity to shield Orion from the prying eyes of those who might exploit his unique origins.
In the quiet interlude, as Orion dreams peacefully, Tech reflects on the fragility of their clandestine existence. The muslin cloth, a mundane item with newfound significance, becomes a symbol of their shared moments, hidden away from the watchful eyes that loom beyond the barracks' walls. Each wipe and every precaution serves as a small act of defiance in a world that demands their secrecy.

Chapter 77: Reason to go on
As Tech's consciousness gradually emerges from the depths of sleep, he becomes aware of the dull throb pulsating at his temples, a relentless reminder of the turmoil that had plagued his mind the previous night. Blinking groggily, he shifts slightly, the stiffness in his limbs serving as a stark testament to the hours spent curled up in the cramped confines of his bunk.
As his mind clears, Tech's gaze falls upon the figure beside him, the familiar silhouette of his brother bathed in the soft glow of morning light filtering through the ship's viewport. Hunter's steady breathing fills the air, a reassuring presence amidst the lingering remnants of Tech's troubled dreams. A wave of gratitude washes over Tech as he realizes that Hunter never left his side throughout the night, choosing instead to remain by his brother's side in silent protective way. Despite the countless battles they've faced together, it's moments like these, quiet, unspoken gestures of support that remind Tech of the unwavering bond they share as brothers.
With a soft exhale, Tech shifts his gaze to the sleeping form of Orion, nestled peacefully in his makeshift bed beside them. The sight of his son brings a flicker of warmth to Tech's heart, a reminder of the love and resilience that anchors him in even the darkest of times. Despite the lingering ache in his head and the numb feelings, Tech feels a renewed sense of determination stirring within him. With Hunter, and the others, by his side and Orion resting peacefully nearby, he knows that together, they can weather whatever challenges lie ahead, drawing strength from the unbreakable bonds of family that bind them together. As Tech gently places his hand on Orion's stomach, he feels a sense of relief wash over him at the steady rise and fall of his son's breathing, a sign that Orion is still sound asleep. Finally staying asleep during the night. Slowly, he trails his fingers downward, his touch gentle as he checks for any signs that Orion might need a diaper change. With practiced efficiency, Tech carefully manoeuvres himself on an elbow, mindful of not disturbing Hunter's rest as he navigates next to his sleeping brother, removing his arm from around his shoulders. Despite knowing that Hunter's heightened senses would likely wake him at the slightest disturbance, sound and so on, but Tech is determined not to disrupt his brother's well deserved sleep.
As he leans over Orion, Tech's movements are careful and deliberate, his focus solely on ensuring his son's comfort. With practiced precision, he expertly checks Orion's diaper, relieved to find it dry and clean. With a soft exhale, Tech settles back into his position, a faint smile playing at the corners of his lips as he watches Orion sleep peacefully. With the immediate task completed, Tech allows himself a moment of quiet reflection, laying back down, his thoughts drifting to the challenges that lie ahead. Despite the uncertainty of their circumstances, he draws strength from the unwavering support of his family, knowing that together, they can face whatever obstacles come their way.
As Orion stirs, his small movements gradually rousing Tech from the brink of sleep, which was claiming him again. With a soft groan, Tech blinks away the last remnants of drowsiness, his attention immediately drawn to his son's awakening. Orion's hungry cries pierce the quiet of the barracks, a clear indication that he's in need of nourishment. Despite the persistent throbbing in his head, Tech pushes through the discomfort, his focus shifting entirely to meeting Orion's needs. With practiced efficiency, he reaches for the bottle of formula nearby, his movement’s swift and sure as he plans for feeding.
Carefully cradling Orion in his arms, Tech adjusts his position to ensure his son's comfort, his gaze gentle as he meets Orion's wide-eyed stare. With slow movements he climbs over Hunter. Tech is well aware he must be awake, the way his nose crunches, the creases deepening on his forehead, visible through the mess of hair. Orion is also not quiet when he wants something either. And as Tech is standing he draws the curtain of his bunk, showing Hunter he is allowed to keep sleeping.
As Orion feeds, Tech's headache fades into the background, his attention fully captured by the mundane moment shared between father and son. With each contented suckle, Tech's heart swells with love and gratitude, a silent reminder of the bond that unites them. His reason to keep going. Despite the challenges they may face, Tech finds solace in these simple moments of connection, a testament to the enduring strength of their family bond. And as Orion drifts back to sleep, his hunger sated and his tiny hand curled around Tech's finger, Tech is filled with a profound sense of peace, knowing that no matter what the future holds, they will face it together.
Tech carefully shifts Orion in his arms, ensuring his son remains cradled securely against his chest as he with gentle, measured steps, navigates the small of the ship, mindful not to jostle Orion or disturb his peaceful post meal slumber. As Tech reaches the storage compartment, he rummages through the supplies, his movements deliberate despite the persistent ache throbbing behind his temples. His mind races with the need to alleviate his discomfort swiftly, yet he remains focused on his task at hand. That he didn’t put on his goggles may also be counterproductive to that nagging pain.
After a moment's search, Tech finds what he's looking for, a bottle of painkillers and a small bacta patch tucked away among the medical supplies. With a sigh of relief, he retrieves the items, grateful for the foresight to keep them stocked. Returning to the small galley with Orion still nestled in his arms, Tech takes the painkiller, swallowing them down with a sip of water. The cool liquid soothes his parched throat, most likely from his unusual emotional outburst last night, offering a momentary respite from the persistent ache. Placing the bacta patch on the back of his neck, easily with Orion in his arms. He got pretty efficient doing things with one hand by now. And the placement, while being not the most efficient place, is better so Orion can’t reach it.
With the painkillers beginning to take effect, Tech settles onto one of those bulky armchairs Wrecker decided they needed, for saving up space it is not the best, careful not to disturb Orion's rest. He adjusts his position, finding a comfortable angle to lean back, sinking into the chair, his son cradled against his chest in a peaceful embrace. As the pain in his head gradually eases, Tech closes his eyes, allowing himself to relax into the quiet of the morning. With Orion sleeping soundly in his arms and the dull throb of his headache fading into the background, Tech finds a fleeting moment of tranquillity amidst the chaos of their lives as soldiers. The familiar hum of the systems no longer his favourite sound of comfort, as nothing compares to the soft coos of his son as he sleeps.
