I checked out the new speed table & pedestrian crossing on 5th Street at Tech Square yesterday -- it works! People were safely crossing the street and drivers were stopping for them.

FusionFall Division Headcanons: Dexlabs and Mandark Industries Personnel

Both Dexlabs and Mandark Industries were forerunners in the fight against Fuse, leading the way in weaponry and technological defenses.  The work they do is second to none, and every Fusion Fighter has something from either company in their standard gear.  Don’t let the ruffled lab coats and tired eyes from long nights spent at work fool you: They aren’t to be underestimated.

With their work focused in the areas of science and technology, there are few personnel assigned to other areas outside of Tech Square. Those that are are often apart research or repair teams. 

Despite their intellectual focus, all members are required to have some basic training as a soldier.  While secure, Tech Square is still heavily targeted by Fuse, so, as a precaution, everyone there has to be prepped for battle should the need arise: There’s still a watch system, soldiers keep their gear close at hand, the labs can go into sequential lockdowns, and scientists tend to keep weapons on them when they can.  Emergency drills become second nature.

Those stationed outside of Tech Square are less familiar with regulation because their experience is focused in field work.  They’re more likely to perform odd hours because their work primarily depends on circumstance, where they need to move whenever they’re called (tech maintenance, updating Dexbots/Mandroids, monitoring infected zones, etc.)  The exception to this is with the heads of research, who are more confined to their particular location or longer-term assignment.

Both companies will also contract Fusion Fighters from other divisions for work on specific projects, such as research participants or the nano project.  These contracts vary as a result, with the people involved offered some of the benefits that standard personnel would have access to during its duration.  

Stemmed from Dexter’s and Mandark’s rivalry, members of each company tend to have a competitive streak as well.  However, it’s done more in good fun compared to their bosses or some of the robots and isn’t too obvious unless you go to Tech Square.  It’s a good way for them to relax a bit with their work by making a kind of game of it, each side trying to outdo the other--be it through scientific/technological accomplishments, outside preferences between the two companies’ various gear, or how many fusion monsters they take down.

The Sweeter, The Better

After one year of exploring the food scene around Tech, I still find myself coming back to the first cafe I went to at the start of the semester. Only a short walk from Tech Square, Momo Cafe serves the perfect summer sweets that stand out from the traditional pastry. The unique flavor combos such as the black sesame and green matcha ice cream proved just how unlikely combos make for a delicious surprise. If you’re a foodie, the aesthetic layout of the cafe is the perfect place for a photo-op (of you or the food). Whether you come for the pictures or eating, I definitely recommend taking the short trip away from campus. You’ll leave refreshed by the new scenery and tasty sweets!

FusionFall Bases and Outposts Headcanons: Tech Square

Tech Square’s base surrounds the whole of the area encompassing Dexlabs and Mandark Industries.  It’s focus is on improving new tech and equipment to help Fusion Fighters, best Fuse’s army, and restore the planet from infection.  It’s also the location where most nano research is conducted.  

Despite how the majority of Fusion Fighters there are scientists, engineers, etc., everyone is trained in some means of weaponry and defense.  As the location is a major target by Fuse, no one can be too careful. Routine check-ins are normal, and the people are sworn to the greatest extreme of secrecy to protect their research from Fuse.

Unlike other bases, which often don’t have an established uniform, most of the people there are often required to wear either Dexlabs or Mandark Industries attire. This is because most of them either already work there or are participating in experiments which require them to dress a certain way.

While many research participants act as independent agents in the war effort–often scattered and sent to various locations–they are called back to Tech Square regularly to update their gear and test new equipment. These research participants are commonly referred to as “lab rats” by society as a whole, both in a teasing way and in mockery, due to all of the testing they go through.

Similarly, IE (Imaginary Energy) Donors will also sometimes check-in with Tech Square to test their nanos.  However, as it’s their nanos facing potential experimentation, they aren’t viewed the same as the research participants. 

There’s on-site housing available for all workers, research participants, and IE donors; however, in the case of the latter two, their quarters are much smaller as they’re only meant to stay in Tech Square for short periods of time.

No matter the job, everyone is cycled for guard/combat duty to keep their skills sharp.

Although not treated with the same loathing, there’ s a bit of a rivalry between all of the Fusion Fighters at the base due to the conflict between Mandark and Dexter.  It keeps the atmosphere light while also pushing everyone to work their hardest, and is treated as a common source of recreation in Tech Square where the “ red and blue teams” challenge each other in all types of sports or competitions.  Nevertheless, you’ll find them hanging out together in their off-time all the same.

The rivalry between their boss’s, however, can sometimes be a detriment to the research participants if either of the young scientists lose their heads…
