sooooo i got distracted while working on art for the new chapter and created them as animals muahahhaha. WE SHOULD NORMALIZE TURNING CHARACTERS INTO ANIMALS WHEN YOU GET BORED BTW BC I LOVED DOING THIS A LOT !!! I also got like way too into it and spent waaaay more time than i should've doodling them lol
anyway, references of the animals i based them on under the cut plus some more !!
Roger is a wolfdog for a few reasons. I wanted him to be a herding dog when i first thought of it because i thought it'd be really cute, but i also wanted him to be a lot more dangerous outwardly than he really was, and viola, i made him a wolfdog. This also makes him significantly larger, and I thought it would be a good lean to the idea that if I ever drew any other giants as animals, they would be direwolves to show just how small Roger really is in comparison to other giants.
Mabel is a nightingale mostly because of their beautiful song (and the fact that there are a few composed pieces that include the name of the bird in their title) but also because it would make her look very plain, which fits her character. She is by no means an extravagant woman, but she does have an amazing musical talent and beautiful voice.
I knew from the start that I wanted to make Jack a lamb, since he is very similar to them in personality. He's skittish, but also shocking bold at random turns because of his own curiosity. So at first, he was just going to be some normal lamb, before I looked into specific breeds and found the Jacob Sheep, which literally has similar patterns to a cow !! So he'd literally look similar to Milky White !!! White wool also helped me to show off just how dirty he would appear before he finally bathes at all, which i found very nice.
