hello! do you have any tips for lifting your free leg high when landing? i've started waltz jumps and it always feels like my toe is /so/ close to dragging (it's probably not that close) when i try to stay upright. it's definitely not getting anywhere near parallel to the ice. it may be a flexibility problem with my back, i'm not sure. do you any ideas on how to improve that? thanks!!
It’s more likely a matter of strength and balance, rather than flexibility. I would recommend holding onto the wall and practicing your landing position. Tighten your back muscles, pull your shoulders back, and lift your leg higher than what you would need it to be. Practice the landing on the wall, then go try it in the jump. When you feel your free leg starting to sink again, go back to the wall, and repeat.
