The Mardeni scrap wastes are an inhospitable stretch of desert in the south of Aprec Secundus. Dark age nanoweapons lurk among rotting machinery and dunes of rust, allowing greenskin infestations otherwise easily removed to grow in number relatively unmolested by the planet's tech priest masters. Magi assigned to lead the skitarii legion tasked with patrolling Mardeni see it as a punishment and serve with grim resignation as the metallivorus nanites that inhabit the waste slowly consume their bodies

Mardeni skitarii are a unique breed. Unlike the polished security legions of the great polar forgefanes with their shining augmetics and flowing rubberized great coats, the veterans of the scrap waste wear rags dyed reverent red with vegetables drug from the dunes and use weapons bolted together from castoffs and old, broken machinery. Conventional augmetics are seen as a temporary solution and a mark of green troops yet to be truly blooded by the corrosive winds of the desert. To keep their legion at full strength, the tech priests farm organs and limbs (some cloned and genhanced, many simply salvaged from tech thralls) at an industrial scale. The skitarii have in turn developed a unique sect within the cult of the machine god, one which views the grafting of new flesh onto oneself to be a holy act which grants the grafted new spiritual strength and finds beauty it that which is obviously repaired and patched together.

Other Aprecite priests and skitarii may scoff at the sight of the 'scrap sewn' but few envy their duties and the pragmatic effectiveness they display carrying them out. They specialize in asymmetrical warfare and guerrilla tactics, picking away at the orks inhabiting their desert so no one group can ever gain enough power to consolidate every tribe into the beginnings of a WAAAGH! This flexibility makes the Mardeni legion a valued asset within an otherwise extremely rigid mechanicus war machine
