New Things and Not So Tech-Savvy
Here's technology-challenged me trying get a hang of tumblr. Seriously, I may have grown up in this generation of iphones, tweets, and so on, but I could probably use a quill pen and ink better than the internet. I'm not a person to easily lose my temper, but my computers have received some pretty heated glares and slaps over the years. I refused to even get a Facebook until AFTER my mom had one for months. Just sayin'.
Then why, you may ask, am I now creating a tumblr (and a twitter account, by the way)? Several reasons.
One, I just sent in the final draft of my first YA novel to my publishers this past week. And anybody who wants to write has to get the word out about their book so they can have fans and have ways to connect with their fans. Be my fan??? *puppy dog eyes*
Two, my New Year's Resolution this year is to do things that scare me--essentially shoving myself beyond my safe bubble of a comfort zone. While creating tumblr and twitter accounts don't necessarily "scare" me, they aren't something I'm completely comfortable with...yet! So please bear with me as I find my footing.
Three, I like new things. This is going to be fun! ;-)
I still don't really know how to use this site o.o ;-;
Baked cookies today and wore my new watch, pretty productive day. Now to figure out how to use my new Surface. I've had it for three days and I'm still confused haha.
Challenge of the Day: Technology
Trying to use technology often leaves me feeling incompetent and like I shouldn't have been born in this particular period of time. Over the years, I've mastered come to love barely grasped some of the basics about TVs, cell phones, computers, iPods, online banking, other basic modern technology; in general, technology and I are tertiary friends at best.
I must've woken up this morning with a desire to be masochistic adventurous because I decided that this Monday morning, I would move my iTunes library from my home computer (which is an iMac) to my laptop (PC). Well actually, I wanted to move it from the iMac to an external hard drive so it wouldn't take up space on my laptop. I know that probably sounds and really is very simple. It sounded simple to me, so I'm like "yeah, I (who always struggles with every piece of technology I touch) can totally handle this (this task that involves multiple types of technological devices of different brands)! Let's do this!"
Eventually, I did it. After 5 hours, the goal was achieved. However! I can't really explain what went wrong or how I figured out how to make it work. :-/
In general, I believe that life is about the journey, not the destination, but in areas of life that involve technology I'm typically satisfied being all about the end result. So, here where I usually talk about all the lessons I learned and feel proud of myself for taking on a challenge and growing from it and mastering some if not all of it, I will say:
I am grateful for Google and online tutorials and message boards and people who know stuff about technology and post their knowledge on the Internet for people like me to read and try (I read like at least fifteen different sets of instructions that eventually led me to the solution). Most importantly, I am grateful that I can now manage my iTunes library from my laptop/external hard drive. I have music, people! :)
