This is a question that TED Conferences posted on LinkedIn.
If I run out of work:
I ask my co-workers🧍🏻♂️ if they need help with anything first. I will check with my manager 👨💼. I may even ask if I can cross train with another department. I have seriously done these actions and I found cross training to be the most interesting since it tends to be different then what I am doing. 😄
It is also possible when you go to your manager, unexpected events may occur: your co-worker could be asked to stop what they are doing and give their work to you, so they can go train or do something else elsewhere. That’s a bit challenging, at times, not to feel disappointed that you were not asked. That is okay but don’t take it personally.
That is difficult to handle at times.I have found a way to multitask that doesn’t cause problems, such as
Change your view point if you can. Just remember that this is job security and your manager knows you are great at what your current duties are. Excelling at your tasks or assigned duties and having your manager give you more of that work so someone else can do something else is a compliment. It means they trust you to know what you’re doing. Gaining that trust is immensely wonderful for a job and means you’re secure in what you’re doing.
Now if the work is boring or repetitive:
I want to point out that multitasking does not work; science says so. What I have found is when you’re doing tasks that require different ways to be engaged, you can do a lesser engaging task with a more engaging task, such as
If your task requires you to transcribe or data entry 🖥️, I recommend music you enjoy without lyrics. Video game soundtracks are good options besides, say, classical music.
Hearing lyrics can mess up your typing sinxe you’ll end up typing what you’re hearing instead of what you’re reading. It isn’t easy to engage both the visual (eyes) and audio (ears) centers of the brain at the same time, so says the last audiologist I saw in either 2022 or 2023.
If you are working with numbers, like spreadsheets or budgets ⌨️, then listening to regular music with a heavy beat that makes you almost feel like dancing can work well. Also, audiobooks or podcasts can be an option too.
Note: I do not mean actively doing math. Math requires both visual, usually kinetic (hand writing or typing), and problem solving. Mathematics is usually a heavy duty task for your mind. You need essentially something in the background that can help with focus.
Just remember it is ok to turn it off or turn it down if you need to focus. As I stated above, engaging both your visual center and audio center of the brain is difficult first most people to do.
If you’re doing physical labor 👷, such as construction or cleaning a room or house🧺, anything to engage your brain and/or thoughts can work to help too.
Did you know changing body position can also be a way to help motivation and energy? Sitting too long can be harmful 🪑while standing has shown to increase productivity 🧍♀️.
What have you done to help with motivation and engagement at you? I would love to hear from you. Leave a comment or reblog. Thanks!

The TED Conference always celebrates dreams. Not the fluffy, snoozy kind — but the big, bold, beautiful visions that have the potential to send ripples of change out into the world. That’s why the theme of TED2016 is: Dream. We are thrilled it begins tomorrow. Over the next week, 65 speakers will share their dreams…
We are the Park Avenue Armory Youth Corps interns, who support the Armory’s mission to showcase unconventional art that’s never been seen before. We want to attend the TEDYouth Conference to bring our ideas, creativity, and out-of-the-box thinking to our generation—now and in the future.
Here at Park Avenue Armory, we strive to showcase artistic talents and bring something new to the table. The Armory's mission is: “to revitalize a landmark building as a center for unconventional works in the performing and visual arts, while simultaneously maintaining and restoring the historic aspects of the building.” As we preserve the Armory itself so that it stands for many years, we Youth Corps are also looking into the future and discovering ways the building and the art we show can help others experience art and creativity.
WHO ARE YOUTH CORPS?
Youth Corps is a group of high school students who develop leadership, communication, and life skills at the Armory.
The Summer 2015 Youth Corps interns.
This means we explore and research the many different types of art such as visual art, dance, music, theater, and more and think about what art can tell us about culture, society, issues, and ourselves. This semester our project is technology, and the future.
Youth Corps present their research on art and culture.
We are used to challenging ourselves to create projects that combine many different themes. For example, this summer we were inspired by Tree of Codes, a contemporary ballet which was performed in Park Avenue Armory this fall, by Wayne McGregor, Olafur Eliasson, and Jamie xx.
Youth Corps members Sinaia and Angela at Olafur Eliasson’s “Collectivity Project.”
For example, we visited Olafur Eliasson’s installation known as “The Collectivity Project” at the High Line to expand our knowledge, research all about it, and see his artwork in person.
Then we created our own pieces of art using only books and papers that related to Tree of Codes. Pushing boundaries with our projects led us to create unique and abstract artwork to depict a specific theme we chose.
One of our final projects this summer inspired by Tree of Codes.
That is what Youth Corps love to do, starting off with an object so plain, and inventing something more thought-provoking and different than anything you could have imagined. Youth Corps believe if we are accepted to the TEDYouth Conference, we can lead you all to that path of thinking outside of the box and imagining how our generation will be in the future.
So, who are Youth Corps? We are diligent, hardworking teenagers who are interested in opening everyone’s imaginations and minds. If we can do that here in the Armory, then it would be an honor to share our minds with a bigger crowd in this conference. And we want to bring back what we learn to other Youth Corps and the Armory staff.
(We are also adaptable and know that if something doesn’t go right the first time, we should just try again... like when we were making the GIFs for this blog post and Sinaia took a tumble. Don’t worry, she is OK!)

Find a job you love and you'll never work a day in your life.

As cliche as that sounds, it's the best feeling when you can be in love with your life...every second of it! I may work a lot and sometimes take on too much to handle but I have good intentions and am thankful for all the opportunities. I love when I see people my age constantly working towards their dreams or continue to dream on. You're never too old to be whatever you want in this world.
One of my many jobs is working for Maurice Kaehler, the producer and creator of TEDxLAMiracleMile, a non-profit organization that is devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. TEDx is a program that has branched off from TED to provide more local and community based gatherings that are coordinated independently. Many people are familiar with TED talk conferences/speeches that are probably shown in classrooms or passed around through video online. However, experiencing a TED talks conference is way more powerful when you're in a room of people that share the same essence of thinking and desire to manifest brilliant ideas.
