With indie rock ironically finding its place within the mainstream market, it seems that the need to authenticate “indie cred” is more or less irrelevant, especially when a lot of indie bands, unbeknownst are cut from the same mold. Brooklyn quartet Bear Hands provides the perfect alternative to this, combining pop sensibility with their unique aesthetic of indie. The band is comprised of Dylan Rau (vocals, guitar, keys), Val Loper (bass), Ted Feldman (guitar), and TJ Orscher (drums). “Agora”, the leading track from their 2nd record Distraction is equal parts neurotic persona and high-powered energy. The song shifts the melody from eerie whispered, yet mellow verses, to fun upbeat choruses. Although the lyrics dance around the underlining complexity of living with a personality disorder, Bears Hands manages to make the experience a much happier one.
