How conscious investors can turn up the heat and make companies change
“We love to engage on the issues of the day. We comment on the news, social media, we march, we protest. But who among us is working on solutions?”
I chose this quote, because I think it’s very accurate. Everyone speaks, yet nobody is saying anything.
“Activists like money. The way they make money is by getting management of corporations to make changes.”
This quote might be simplified, but it is a very accurate view on investors.
“You can’t divest your way to a greener world.”
This quote is a statement to all conscious investors. Don’t pull out your money from bad companies. Instead, use the influence the stocks give you by turning up the heat, and making changes!
This TED-talk gave me a new outlook on investors. Not only do investors have a lot more influence than you might think, just by pressuring the companies. Vinay Shandel has done a great job on addressing this topic. He gave examples of greedy investors, conscious investors and both their influences in society. The way he spoke about an investor taking on the Argentinian government, is a story to remember. Just by increasing the pressure, he got his investment back multiple times. Conscious investors should take note. They shouldn’t sell their stocks once a company does bad things, they should use their influence to make a change.
