Set a year after the finale, Teddy Jr. goes to a family barbecue for Mother's Day noticing Janet's odd behaviour. After considering the past strain of their relationship and flashing back to his own childhood, will he be able to figure out and resolve her issue?

I wrote a thing quickly today because it was lingering in my mind all day since today is Mother’s Day. Got me thinking and it all fell into place. A cute wee mother/son story if you’re up for it. Enjoy!

What Teddy Needs

Title: What Teddy Needs Fandom: Rectify (TV) Character: Teddy Talbot, Jr. Summary: Teddy loves Tawney - more than anything. He doesn't want to lose her, but she's not exactly what he needs.

So the concept here is that Teddy is a major sub who has a desperate need to be loved and placed first with somebody - anybody. It’s not about sex, really. He loves Tawney with all his heart and is devastated at the thought of losing her. But he can’t explain why spending a couple of evenings a week on his knees at this woman's feet, or cleaning her house, or being told how good and sweet and helpful he is when he massages her feet or folds the towels she just pulled from the dryer, makes him feel like a man again. Makes him feel whole.

“I grew up with Teddies, right? I knew Teddies when I was in high school. And I think being an athlete growing up and being in locker rooms with these guys and spending time with these individuals that you realize that they're jerks, or they're perceived as jerks, because of their own sadness and their own insecurities. And I feel like American television has depicted these guys as being these just boisterous, confident, with the big hair and kind of good looking guys with their polo shirts on, and we never really see who these guys are. And I felt like I could bring a certain honesty to Teddy that wasn't necessarily on the page in the first script that I saw. Then after communicating with Ray, I realized that he kind of had the same intentions that I felt that I could bring to it as far as the way he wanted to depict Teddy.” - Clayne Crawford
