The Mothership

Every colony denizen was made from parts of her that she later regrew.

She is a leech of sorts. Her goal is simply to feed and grow. She spent most of her existence maintaining her colony and hoping between solar systems to drain them of their resources.

She created the denizens of her colony because she was overwhelmed with loneliness. She felt too distant from the civilizations she destroyed to consider them for company instead of food.

At some point she wanted to expand her influence over other lifeforms in the universe and started collecting primitive creatures to keep as pets. However they kept dying in her care as she never bothered to research or study them to learn how to actually care for them.

With a batch of centipedes she collected she decided to manipulate their biology and physiology using her own body matter.

In one of her experiments a centipede died after laying eggs that began to writhe on their own as they became larger. The larva that came from those eggs were also experimented on until a few of them were left.

In a moment where she had left the large larva alone these creatures started attacking eachother as the sudden growth was accompanied by an aggressive wave of hunger.

When she returned she found only one larva survived, it was the only larva that had grown teeth.

Note: I use the excuse that they're a shapeshifter for inconsistent character design :p

While on the colony they resembled a realistic centipede more. When they arrived on Earth they changed their form to blend in slightly more with the rest of the earthlings.

Centipedes IRL are used to make pain relief meds. Teefs was harvested on their colony for this and was also a guard dog. Their body doesn't show evidence of any of the injuries inflicted onto them (due to them being able to instantly regenerate) BUT their brain and nervous system remembers it and at random they have pain flair ups where their mind tricks their body into believing they're being harvested or attacked again.

Due to them being an ingredient for pain relief they have a high tolerance so smth like Tylenol isn't enough to ease their symptoms.

So on earth they would probably resort to more intense drugs like heroin.

Also it's not 24/7 pain, they can go weeks or months without a flair up but it happens often and bad enough where they make sure to always be stocked up.

Unsure if I've shared this BUT I had a dream that inspired this apocalypse au

I was walking with a more post apocalyptic sci fi version of Glamrock Freddy and some friends of mine. We were sharing cigarettes and Freddy was lecturing us on how smoking is bad for us, I responded by blowing smoke onto his face and he promptly ripped the cigarette out of my hand and crushed it. Which like, so valid.

We were talking about a coo we were organizing to overthrow some kind of military that was being dicks and doing the usual evil government thing.

I forget what happened next but I got beaten up left for dead and my friends and Freddy were captured by said evil military.

I woke up and planned to save all of them.

I broke into their base where they had my friends I was confronted by a brainwashed Freddy. He tried to kill me but the power of friendship ™ cured him. We freed the others and fully removed any control the evil military had on Freddy (which where I learnt that he had been tortured)

The dream ended with us trying to relax after we escaped. I lit a cigarette and Freddy started to lecture me again. I rolled my eyes and told him to leave me alone, since everything that had happened I deserved a break. He dropped it and just sat next to me.
