Alex Kingston: ‘I don’t want to play King Lear – let’s create new heavy hitting roles for women’

Doctor Who and ER star Alex Kingston is preparing to star in the revival of An Enemy of the People at Nottingham Playhouse

“One big change, however, is the switch of her character, Dr Stockmann, from male to female. Kingston isn’t, she says, someone who necessarily subscribes to gender-flipping roles in existing works. “I don’t want to play King Lear, I don’t want to play Hamlet. I’d rather see new, heavy-hitting roles be created for women. It was ostensibly a man’s world back then. So, let’s now say: ‘Let’s create new works that celebrate the fact that’s no longer the case.’”

Shakespeare belongs to all of us: There were three Latinas in my class. That may not sound like a big deal, but it was for me. It was the first time I was able to speak my native language in a classroom since I moved to New York. I was honored to meet such wonderful, talented, and strong women, and it moved me beyond words to see them own and embody the words of Shakespeare. I knew in my mind that Shakespeare was universal, but it wasn’t until I saw their work that I knew in my heart that Shakespeare truly belongs to all of us. He wrote about humanity, which means that no matter our culture, no matter our language, Shakespeare is able to connect us all.

I figured I would take all the apps that people have been talking about and compare them side by side for you all. I don't have an Android, and the apps have an "Install" button, so I assume they're free, but I'm not sure (hence the questions marks).
