I have a very old Chozo fancharacter, Tehees, from around the time I first got into the series with Prime and Fusion. She’s a Chozo warrior who lived on Zebes, and before the Chozo gave up their warmongering ways, had been a high-ranking Power Suit user.
She’s had a few changes as Samus’ backstory has been elaborated on: at first she was the Chozo who found and primarily raised Samus, since that’s pretty much all I had to go on re:the Prime manual and the NTSC Chozo lore logs. While I’m not particularly fond of the Zero Mission manga, the bits of it that made it into Zero Mission proper are fine, so once that came out she raised Samus alongside Old Bird and Grey Voice as her mother and primary battle instructor. Samus had two dads and a mom! She also had a few relations who were technically older siblings but acted more like aunts or uncles because they were older by several hundred cycles.
Now I’m wondering if Tehees might have been a Mawkin who saw right through Ashkar Behek’s bullshit and decided to stay on Zebes to help raise the orphaned human instead of investigating the X. I’m sure they’d have known each other, though I don’t think they were particularly closely related or anything.
If “power is everything” is a Mawkin motto or koan rather than just a Raven Beak thing, I wonder if the traditional emphasis is different. Raven Beak emphasises “Power is everything”; what if less megalomaniacal Mawkin emphasised it as “Power is everything” - that is, power can come from anywhere, including beauty and love and the protection of the helpless?
I think if Tehees was Mawkin after all, she would have taught Samus that second interpretation. Which probably gave Samus one more reason to be Super Pissed at the end of Dread.
