I recently had the honor and pleasure of sharing beers with friends at the original "Steve's Cantina" built in Alpine by one of the best in Texas beer, Steve Anderson. A veritable museum of beer history from Texas and beyond, including his dusty GABF medals from the very first brewpub in Texas, Austin's Waterloo Brewing, and the original neon from the Showdown, which was before that Raul's, and is what became the space occupied by Waterloo under the watchful eyes of Billy Forrester, another legend in the history of independent beer in our great state. Neither of these two would ever have bragged about it, which is part of their inherent awesomeness. As the night went on, and many friends had gathered in Alpine, one of the best toasts I've been fortunate enough to have been a part of was given to remember Steve, Scott Williams, and a few others. It was a beautiful night I won't forget, and it further inspired me to help keep that dream alive: to make great beer to be shared with great friends. #TejasForever (at Alpine, Texas)
