Review:
The good thing about these novels: They are easy reads. It wasn’t a chore to get through them even if I was rolling my eyes the whole way through. Also, there are genuinely interesting characters in this series, they just don’t happen to be the main character or the main character’s family.
The biggest issue I have with these books is the way they portray the relationship of Jake and Beth and Jake with his son, Dan. So, you have Jake and Beth and they are supposed to be in love because Jake fell in love with the andriod version of Beth and just from looking at Beth he could tell she was THE ONE. I really wish I knew how to insert the trademark symbol. So, what we get is a forced relationship between Jake and Beth. Throughout this whole novel, I don’t know why they are together.
And then there is Whiney McWhinester Dan. I get the angle of Dan despising Jake because Jake disappointed Dan. Dan is only a teenager, I get it. But how he is written isn’t like that. Jake mainly disparages that Dan should know he was set up. Dan just is spiteful at first and keeps telling Jake he wants him to come back even when Jake is looking for a cure to save Dan’s mother. Wouldn’t Dan care more about the cure? All this could be overlooked, however, if it wasn’t for the damn last part. Throughout this whole thing, Jake and Dan never really address the whole “You disappointed me” thing that Dan has going on. Instead, it is all fixed within the last few pages of the novel.
You may be asking: Why are you going to read the rest of them? Because I have them and as I said before, they are extremely easy reads.
