Tana Rata, Cameron Highlands, Pahang, Malaysia, 2000.
In the humid tropics at a little less than 1,500 meters elevation, the relatively flat lands around Tana Rata allowed the British colonists of Malaya to develop fields for exotic, temperate zone crops like strawberries and lettuce. The British colonists are long gone, but the area still maintains a thriving temperate zone agriculture (dependent on measureless amounts of chemicals as agricultural pests are not killed by frost as they would be in true temperate zones). The Cameron Highlands are also a popular holiday destination for residents of the hot and humid lowlands of Malaysia and Singapore.
