omg im so glad i found this blog so i can rant but when people make a "human" or "modern au" version of sukuna ryomen from jujutsu kaisen. like yes, some of his physical differences are improbably/impossible to actually happen (i.e., the huge fully functional mouth on his stomach or the functional 4 eyes) but even then you can just alter his apperance slightly and he remains the same. what you dont need to do is get rid of his canonical limb and face differences!!! he looks like that because he was born like that!!!! theres several chapters in the manga showing glimpses of his childhood and he was ostrasized for his appearance (among other things). the facial difference could be something like keloid scarring or something congenital or a general issue with tissue growth, so draw it when you are making a "non-fantasy" version of him. the same with his four arms or height difference, polymelia and gigantism are right there!

i dont want to vent about my own issues as im shy so have a character rant instead..

People who are making non-fantasy versions of characters with characteristics present in their fantasy race need to get more creative. I am so sick of them all looking like bland uninteresting redraws of themselves. Look into conditions that could give them similar characteristics!

For the four eyes aspect, you could give him birthmarks or seborrheic keratosis that look like eyes, or even partial facial duplication.

For the mouth on his stomach, you could give him scarring from a surgery done on a stomach deformity, as those scars often look like a "smile" on the tummy.

Fossil Friday: Campanile giganteum

One of our surprisingly popular March Madness competitors, Campanile giganteum is marine snail from the Paris Basin of France during the Eocene Epoch 56-33.9 Ma. It was first described by the famous Jean-Baptiste Lamarck in 1804, He initially had it in the genus Cerithium, which, to be fair, doesn't look a whole lot different.

It was found in the Lutetian limestone (Calcaire lutecian) also known as the Paris Stone. This formation consists of a freshwater limestone deposited on top of a marine limestone as well as some minor calcareous and glauconitic sandstones. This suggests an open, shallow subtidal zone.

This giant snail lived alongside other invertebrates like foraminiferans,

a bivalve called Crassatella,

other snails,

and marine worms.

C. giganteum is actually only one species of many within the genus Campanile. it belongs in the phylum Mollusca which includes snails, cephalopods and bivalves.

From there they belong in the class gastropoda, commonly known as snails and slugs.

There's currently a bit of debate going on with taxonomy further down, but there are at least 18 named species of Campanile including one living species C. symbolicum whose common name is the Bell Clapper or Giant Creeper. It lives in coastal waters off southwestern Australia.

C. giganteum was the largest gastropod to have lived (as far as we know). It got up to 35 in (90cm) on average. C. symbolicum only gets to a little less than 10 inches (24 cm).

A study was done in 2020 on C. giganteum in regard to growth and paleoseasonality. They found that C. giganteum grew upwards of 600 mm per year along the helix of their shell. They concluded that it lived in water between 21-32 degrees Celsius (69.8-89.6 degrees F) which really isn't all that different from the Mediterranean Sea today (a little warmer). A little personal project I did the other night, it's a giant phantom jellyfish. They're really interesting, they live deep in the ocean, so they have gigantism, growing as much as possible. They can be insanely long, and their tendrils are more similar to fleshy ribbons, rather than the typical forbidden spaghett we get with other jellies. They don't sting, they just trap things within the ribbons, wrapping them up. We don't know much about these jellyfish, which just makes it that much cooler. :) I hope you guys like it.
