Stunning eagle sculpture uncovered at sacred Aztec temple in Mexico

A striking 600-year-old Aztec sculpture depicting a golden eagle has been uncovered in an ancient temple in Mexico, archaeologists with Mexico's National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) announced Monday (Jan. 25).

The eagle, which measures 41.7 inches by 27.6 inches (106 by 70 centimeters), is the largest bas-relief sculpture ever found at the temple.

The eagle was carved into the floor of a structure at the foot of Templo Mayor — the iconic pyramid-shaped temple that was built at the heart of the ancient Aztec capital city of Tenochtitlán and is now in modern-day Mexico City.

Artists created the bas-relief — a type of sculpture with raised images carved out of a stone background — in the mid-15th century during the reign of Moctezuma I. Read more.

Mexico builds replica Aztec temple to mark 500 years since Spanish conquest

Mexico is building a towering replica of the Templo Mayor, the Aztec civilisation's most sacred site, in the downtown of Mexico City to mark 500 years since the Spanish conquest of the Aztec capital, Tenochtitlan.

La canción se llama "Xiquiyehua", está en náhuatl y dura muy poquito, pero es preciosa.

Hace 500 años, un 13 de Agosto en 1521, cayó Tenochtitlán.

La canción la escuché en la proyección de una animación acerca de la historia de lo que pasó en el zócalo, en una maqueta del templo mayor Huey-Teocalli; que por cierto, estará hasta Septiembre (no sé si la vayan a dejar para la conmemoración del sismo que hubo en el 1985/2017) y esta se proyecta 3 veces al día.

No hay que quedarse con lo que nos cuentan en los libros de historia, hay que investigar más. Quién no sabe su historia, está condenado a repetirla.
